Committed to fostering a supportive environment, we prioritize employee growth, learning, and success as we continue to expand our impact over the next decades. Job Summary This is a new start-up position within our company supporting the launch and growth of our label printing operation. The role will provide hands-on leadership for HP Indigo 6K+ digital press operations, producing high-quality labels and packaging for vitamin, supplement, and consumer health products. We are seeking an experienced label printing professional who brings strong hands-on knowledge of digital press operations and is ready to take on a lead/supervisory role in a small, growing operation. Initially, this position will supervise and work alongside one employee, making it an ideal opportunity for someone with solid technical experience who has some experience leading, training, or directing others and is interested in growing their leadership responsibilities as the operation expands. The position is responsible for day-to-day press performance, print accuracy, color consistency, equipment uptime, production documentation, employee training and support, and safe manufacturing practices. As part of a new operation, this individual will also play an important role in establishing effective workflows, maintaining quality standards, troubleshooting production issues, and helping build efficient processes as the department grows.
Essential Functions:
Provide hands-on leadership for daily HP Indigo 6K+ press operations while working alongside the Digital Press Operator to achieve production schedules, quality standards, uptime, waste, and on-time delivery targets. Serve as the primary technical resource for press setup, operation, changeovers, color management, substrate handling, and production of pressure-sensitive labels, packaging components, and related print materials. Coordinate and prioritize daily work based on production schedules, job readiness, equipment capacity, and downstream finishing requirements. Train, coach, and provide day-to-day direction to the Digital Press Operator on HP Indigo procedures, job setup, color and quality standards, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, GMP, safety, and site SOPs. Monitor print quality and process performance, including registration, density, color consistency, image defects, variable data accuracy, barcode/QR readability, label copy accuracy, spoilage, and rework. Perform and oversee daily start-up, shutdown, cleaning, preventive maintenance, and operator maintenance activities in accordance with HP Indigo requirements and site SOPs. Use HP Indigo press controls, color-management, automation, workflow, and diagnostic tools—including Spot Master and PrintOS—to improve uptime, quality, repeatability, and production efficiency. Coordinate with prepress to ensure files are production-ready, color-managed, imposed correctly, and aligned with approved artwork and labeling requirements before release to production. Work closely with finishing, quality, maintenance, and production planning teams to resolve production issues, coordinate priorities, and support on-time delivery. Monitor consumables and press materials, including ElectroInks, blankets, PIPs, imaging oil, substrates, primers, and related supplies; communicate replenishment needs and support inventory control. Review production records, spoilage, material usage, maintenance activity, quality checks, downtime, and corrective actions for accuracy and completeness. Maintain a clean, organized, audit-ready print area that complies with company safety, quality, GMP, housekeeping, and controlled-production requirements. Identify and implement practical improvements in press uptime, changeover efficiency, waste reduction, first-pass quality, standard work, and overall print operation performance. Provide day-to-day feedback, coaching, and work direction to the Digital Press Operator and communicate employee performance or attendance concerns to management as appropriate. Lead hands-on troubleshooting of press, color, substrate, workflow, and equipment issues and coordinate escalation to maintenance, HP service, quality, or management when needed. Help establish effective workflows, operating practices, and standards as the label printing operation develops and grows.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong hands-on knowledge of digital label printing, including press operation, color management, substrate handling, job setup, quality control, production documentation, and press performance. Strong understanding of HP Indigo digital print production or the ability to apply experience from comparable digital label-printing equipment. Ability to independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain digital printing equipment in a production environment. Ability to read and follow job tickets, SOPs, production schedules, quality specifications, and safety procedures. Comfortable using computer-based press interfaces, production software, and basic Microsoft Office or equivalent business tools. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine maintenance, recognize abnormal press conditions, troubleshoot production problems, and determine when additional technical support is needed. Strong attention to detail, particularly for color, copy, lot/version control, label accuracy, registration, and repeatability. Ability to organize and prioritize daily production work while remaining actively involved in press operations. Ability to train, coach, and provide clear day-to-day direction to another employee. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with prepress, finishing, quality, maintenance, planning, and management. Comfortable working in a new and growing operation where processes and workflows will continue to be developed and refined.
Education and Experience:
Minimum 4 years of hands-on digital printing/press experience, including job setup, print quality control, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and production documentation. Experience producing pressure-sensitive labels or other narrow-web label products strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with HP Indigo digital printing equipment strongly preferred; HP Indigo 6K/6K+/WS6800/WS6900/8000 experience is a plus. Experience with digital label production, including color consistency, registration, substrates, variable data, barcode/QR requirements, and label quality standards preferred. Previous experience providing day-to-day work direction, training, coaching, or technical guidance to another employee preferred. Formal supervisory or management experience is not required. Experience with ElectroInk, Spot Master, PrintOS, or comparable digital print/color-management workflows preferred. G7 or other color-management training/knowledge is a plus. Experience in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, or another regulated manufacturing environment is a plus.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Requires adherence to company safety, quality, cleanliness, documentation, and controlled-production procedures. This is a hands-on production role requiring regular operation of and work around digital printing equipment. Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity required for color evaluation, defect detection, registration checks, and label quality review. Manual dexterity required for press adjustments, substrate handling, maintenance tasks, and consumable changes.
