This is a highly visible, hands-on role that works directly with operators, supervisors, engineering, quality, and operations leadership. The position will identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and ease of operation, then work with the appropriate teams to implement those improvements both on the production floor and within training and process documentation. The Operator Training & Process Supervisor will also support operator recruiting and selection, coordinate ongoing and cross-training activities, and provide backup production supervision support as needed. Key Responsibilities Training & Employee Development Lead the onboarding and training of new production employees across all shifts and manufacturing work centers. Maintain training records, qualification matrices, and employee cross-training status. Coordinate continuous training and refresher training for existing employees. Identify cross-training opportunities to improve workforce flexibility and production coverage. Work with production leadership to develop employees who can operate multiple machines, processes, or work centers. Follow up with recently trained employees to confirm training has been retained and standard processes are being followed. Work Instructions & Training Documentation Develop, maintain, and continuously improve standardized work instructions and training documentation for production work centers. Ensure documentation clearly communicates machine operation, safety requirements, quality expectations, process controls, inspection requirements, and common troubleshooting steps. Work directly with operators and subject matter experts to ensure documentation reflects the best known production method. Update documentation whenever processes, equipment, tooling, software, quality requirements, or production methods change. Ensure obsolete instructions are removed from use and current revisions are readily available to operators. Build visual training aids, checklists, reference guides, and other tools that make production processes easier to understand and consistently execute. Process Adherence & Floor Support Spend significant time on the production floor observing work and interacting with operators. Monitor daily adherence to established work instructions, standard processes, quality requirements, and operating procedures. Coach employees when deviations from established standards are identified. Escalate repeated or significant process compliance issues to production leadership. Identify situations where employees are not following a process because the process itself is unclear, inefficient, outdated, or difficult to execute. Reinforce consistent operating practices across employees, shifts, and departments. Help establish a culture where standardized work is followed, questioned constructively, and continuously improved. Continuous Improvement Actively identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, material flow, ergonomics, training effectiveness, and ease of operation. Work with operators, supervisors, engineering, quality, maintenance, and management to evaluate and implement improvements. Convert successful production-floor improvements into documented standard work. Help eliminate unnecessary variation between operators and shifts. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities when training or process adherence contributes to a quality or production issue. Identify recurring operator questions, errors, or difficulties and address the underlying issue through improved processes or documentation. Support implementation of new equipment, processes, tooling, software, and production methods by developing training and ensuring operators are prepared before launch. Recruiting & Operator Selection Participate in interviews for new production operators. Evaluate candidates for mechanical aptitude, manufacturing experience, problem-solving ability, reliability, willingness to learn, and overall fit for the position. Provide feedback and hiring recommendations to Operations and Human Resources. Help identify the skills and characteristics associated with successful operators in each department. Production Leadership Support Serve as backup production supervision support when supervisors are absent or additional floor leadership is required. Assist with employee direction, work assignments, production priorities, and issue resolution as needed. Help communicate production expectations and operational priorities to employees.
