Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Fabrication Shop Supervisor is responsible for providing direction, guidance, motivation, and development to the fabrication shop team while maintaining productivity and efficiency in a medium to heavy fabrication/machining job shop environment.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Proactively re-enforce safe behaviors and compliance with company policies and practices
  • Overall responsibility for the fabrication shop including welding, fitting, heat treating, media blast and paint areas
  • Achieve daily direct and indirect labor hour goals, productivity and efficiency, and scrap/rework Motivate, coach, develop, and discipline direct reports as required
  • Maintain appropriate shift morale through employee engagement and direct communication
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with direct reports, peers and management
  • Ensure shift continuity by communicating with second shift supervisor
  • Assist direct reports in project set-ups, crane operation, print interpretation, and related tasks as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3•5 years of experience as a Fabrication Shop Supervisor in a medium to heavy plate fabrication job shop environment•Previous floor level fabrication shop experience in a leadership capacity•Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office•Understanding of weld symbols•Problem solving abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Continuous improvement and/or Lean experience using 5S, Kaizen and /or Six Sigma methodologies
  • Root cause problem solving (DMAIC, 5-Why, Fishbone Diagram)
  • CWI/CWS certification or coursework toward a
CWI/CWS ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS NEEDED
  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crawl throughout the work day
  • Climb and work from ladders or stairs
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 pound objects
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperature
  • Perform repetitive motions
