Assistant Pack Supervisor 1st Shift $19-22 Job Summary Under the direction of the Plant Manager and the Pack Supervisor, the Assistant Supervisor supports daily pack operations by coordinating staff, monitoring production, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and food safety standards. This role helps maintain efficient workflow, proper fruit grading, and accurate order fulfillment. Essential Job Functions Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas. Identify and report equipment or process issues using the work order system. Assist with repairs and maintenance of all equipment within their department. The following Assistant Supervisor responsibilities are completed in coordination with the Pack Supervisor. Assistant Supervisors must follow directions from the Supervisor and help carry out the Supervisor's decisions and plans: Ensure fruit is packed according to grade, size, labeling, and container requirements. Train employees on grading standards, quality control, and proper packing procedures. Ensure employees identify and remove defective fruit during the packing process. Assign employees to positions and maintain proper staffing levels throughout shifts. Operate and monitor packing equipment and labeling systems to maintain product quality. Coordinate activities for grading, palletizing, and quality control functions. Maintain accurate production, safety, and operational records. Communicate with Shipping and Storage teams to align production with demand. Monitor and resolve discrepancies related to Sunkist specifications using Clarifruit. Utilize grading equipment to make real-time adjustments to maintain quality standards. Support compliance with food safety, food security, and Association policies. Inspect the department regularly to ensure safety, efficiency, and workflow standards. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas. Identify and report equipment or process issues using the work order system. Coordinate year-end downtime repairs with management. Conduct safety inspections, hazard checklists, and assist with incident investigations. Lead tailgate meetings weekly or as needed to communicate key updates. Participate in team meetings and recommend process improvements. Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Support the Supervisor with day-to-day direction of pack department employees while employees are working on the packing lines or in other assigned lemon packing house areas. Help the Supervisor make sure employees report to work for their scheduled shifts, work only approved hours, and follow proper clock-in and clock-out procedures. Support the Supervisor by watching that rest breaks and meal periods are taken on time and that employees do not work through breaks, meals, or off-the-clock time. Report time and attendance concerns to the Supervisor, including missed punches, early starts, late returns from breaks or meals, employees leaving early, or any work performed outside approved time. Assist with collecting signed employee forms as required by the Association policies. Support training, coaching, and performance feedback for employees. Promote positive employee relations and address or escalate concerns as needed. Work with the Supervisor and HR to resolve employee issues, complaints, or grievances. Support disciplinary processes through consistent communication, documentation, and adherence to policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to coordinate employee activities and prioritize workflow in a fast-paced production environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Knowledge of packing operations, grading standards, and quality control practices. Strong organizational, time management, and recordkeeping skills. Proficient in using computer systems and general business software for data entry, reporting, and daily operations. Ability to maintain professional working relationships across departments.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in citrus packing or similar environment. Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish required. Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar systems) preferred Forklift Operator Certification preferred
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. Frequent use of hands to handle materials and operate equipment. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform physical tasks and work in a production environment, including climbing stairs or ladders as needed. Requires adequate vision, including close and distance vision, to perform job duties.
Work Environment:
Combination of production floor and office environment. Exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
Safety & Compliance Responsibilities:
Follow all Association safety policies. Comply with food safety and food security requirements. Report unsafe conditions, hazards, and incidents immediately.
