General Production Worker Job Description The General Production Worker supports the safe and efficient operation of extrusion lines by assisting with machine setup, operation, and shutdown while maintaining high standards of quality and housekeeping. This role handles raw materials and finished products, performs basic quality checks, and works closely with the Lead Operator and Shift Supervisor to keep production running smoothly. Responsibilities Assist the Lead Operator and Shift Supervisor in operating the extrusion line on the assigned shift. Help with machine setup, startup, and shutdown procedures according to established guidelines. Load raw materials such as resins, additives, and colorants into hoppers and feeders accurately and safely. Monitor extrusion lines for proper operation and promptly notify the Lead Operator of any issues or abnormalities. Perform basic quality checks, including visual inspections and measurements, to ensure products meet specifications. Remove finished products from the line and package and label them according to production and quality requirements. Support changeovers by cleaning and preparing tooling and equipment to minimize downtime. Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with 5S standards throughout the shift. Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times. Transport materials and finished goods within the facility, using pallet jacks or forklifts if properly certified. Assist maintenance personnel and machine operators with minor troubleshooting and adjustments to equipment. Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and maintain smooth workflow. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience working on machines in a manufacturing environment. High school diploma or GED. Capability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Strong attention to detail when performing quality checks and handling materials. Basic production, general labor, and machine operating skills. Good visual acuity and manual dexterity for reading gauges, monitoring controls, and inspecting product quality. Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 12 hours per shift. Physical ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to operate and maintain extrusion equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing setting with repetitive hand and arm movements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with extrusion equipment or similar manufacturing machinery. Familiarity with 5S or other workplace organization and housekeeping practices. Certification to operate pallet jacks or forklifts, or willingness to obtain certification if required. Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic in previous production or general labor roles. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
