Job Description

Job details Muskingum Iron and Metal is growing rapidly and is searching for a candidate who is mechanically inclined to operate a 2-ram baler. The operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the bailing equipment that is used to bale recyclable materials such as metal, cardboard, and wire ensuring product quality and production flow all while supporting environmental and safety standards. About the company Since 1929 Muskingum Iron & Metal Co has specialized in the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. We purchase scrap from the general public, commercial accounts, and industrial customers across the region. After segregating material by grade, we package it to meet mill furnace specifications so the material can be melted down to begin its new lifecycle. We currently operate five locations across Southeastern and Central Ohio. Muskingum Iron & Metal Co. is an equal opportunity employer. Role Operate and maintain baling machine to compress scrap materials into uniform bales for storage or shipment. Inspect incoming materials to ensure quality and compliance with company standards (e.g., free from contaminants or prohibited items). Perform routine equipment maintenance such as checking fluid levels, greasing parts, removing blockages, and reporting mechanical issues. Track production data includes bale weights, material types, and quantities through manual logs or computerized systems. Adhere to safety protocols by wearing required PPE and ensuring all machine guards and lockout/tagout procedures are followed. Collaborate with Supervisor to coordinate material flow and prepare loads for transport. Keep the work area clean and organized, removing debris and maintaining clear access around equipment. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in recycling, manufacturing, or industrial equipment operation (scrap industry experience highly desirable). Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting ability. Forklift operation certification or willingness to be trained. Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance. Ability to lift up toto 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks in outdoor or industrial conditions.
