Job Description

Job Summary:
Dimensionally inspects aluminum castings and machined product to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements using manual inspection and CMM inspection methods and processes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans inspections by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes and locations of surfaces;
  • Calculate and interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of basic mathematics, geometry and trigonometry;
  • Measure and examine completed parts using precision inspection equipment (e.g., CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, etc.) in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications;
  • Ensure that the preparation, use and maintenance of the CMM meets all customer and regulatory requirements;
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to determine product dimensions and tolerances;
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used for inspection;
  • Position and fasten parts into fixtures;
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information;
  • Confer with numerical control programmer(s) in order to check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly, and that output will meet specifications;
  • Evaluate
AS9100D/IATF 16949
compliant procedures, and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and inspection;
  • Adhere to
AS9100D/IATF 16949
compliant procedures and processes;
  • Assist in the design of fixtures and tooling to meet engineering needs;
  • Prepare work instructions for the illustration of inspection processes;
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations;
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements following manufacturer's instructions, by troubleshooting malfunctions and by calling for repairs, and
  • Perform any and all other duties assigned by management.
Job Qualifications:
  • Must exhibit understanding and commitment to US Castings' Core Values;
  • 5+ years of experience working in an AS9100 or
IATF 16949
certified manufacturing organization as an inspector, machinist or machine operator preferred;
  • 3+ years of experience using a CMM preferred;
  • Knowledge and understanding of CAD (Solidworks) and CAM (Surfcam) preferred;
  • Must exhibit understanding and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing;
  • Must exhibit understanding and knowledge of blue prints and specifications;
  • Must exhibit understanding and knowledge of the use of basic measuring, inspection and test equipment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, etc.);
  • Must be physically able to move, push, pull and lift at least 50 pounds;
  • Strong computer literacy skills required for timekeeping entry and process control data entry;
  • Must be flexible and willing to adapt schedule to meet business demands;
  • Weekends and holidays may be necessary;
  • Willingness to work in a foundry type environment (inspection laboratory is located within a foundry and serves as support of casting production);
  • Constant walking, standing, pushing, pulling, carrying, lifting, kneeling, bending, stooping, and moving during working hours, and
  • Required to pass to a drug and hearing test in order to maintain a safe work environment.
