Job Description
This position is in theDefense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the engineering directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. This position will be filled at either the538.2or538.3level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level. In this role you will Coordinate and support multiple technical projectsand activities with frequently changing requirements and priorities, ensuring schedule, technical, and documentation needs are met. Support acquisition and fabricationof general electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware for the Superblock (SBK) or other Nuclear Material Engineering areas Collaborate with designers, technicians, machinists, engineers, and vendorson multiple moderately complex projects, sometimes involving hazardous or classified materials, to ensure technical requirements are understood and met. Process internal fabrication packagesthrough LLNL fabrication facilities, tracking status and coordinating with fabrication shops and requesters. Review drawings, electrical schematics, engineering notes, sketches, and related technical informationto screen part sources, verify technical requirements, and support material and process selection. Review vendor proposalsfor fabrication processes, pricing, and delivery schedules, and provide feedback or recommendations to project leads. Maintainaccurate records and systems documentation, including procurement status, fabrication progress, equipment maintenance activities, and experimental or operational data as needed. ProvideTechnical Release Representative (TRR)services requiring indepth knowledge of purchasing requirements, regulations, and LLNL business practices. Coordinate programmatic equipment maintenance, including: Tracking vendor maintenance subcontracts Scheduling routine and nonroutine service Working with administrative staff to ensure proper vendor badging, training, and onsite access Supportfacility related and technical functionssuch as maintenance, testing, and upgrades to equipment control and interlock systems in coordination with engineering staff. Ensure thatsupport and experimental areas are kept clean, uncluttered, and in a state of readinessfor ongoing operations and experiments. Strictlyadhere to laboratory environment, safety and health (ES&H), security, and business practice requirements and policies, working safely with hazardous materials and around experimental hardware. Perform other duties as assigned. In addition at the 538.3 level Prepare technical procurement packagesfor mechanical and electromechanical fabrications, including specifications, statements of work, quality assurance requirements, and inspection criteria. Monitor procurement deliverablesand act as a primary technical interface between LLNL and suppliers, including schedule tracking, milestone reviews, and resolution of technical issues during fabrication and delivery. Make independent decisionson fabrication alternatives, supplier selections, and substitute hardware and materials using LLNL guidelines, techniques, and procedures. Manage equipment maintenance databases and spare parts inventory, ensuring traceability, availability of critical spares, and alignment with program requirements. Provideadvanced technical coordinationon complex systems and experiments, including planning sequences of work, selecting methods, and helping guide technical staff on implementation details. Qualifications Associate degree inMechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Experience in acustomer service or support organizationand proven ability to interact with a diverse and demanding customer base. Experience workingindependently and as part of a technical team, with demonstrated effective problemsolving skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while meeting programmatic technical and reporting requirements. Ability toread and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, electrical schematics, and technical specifications, and apply appropriate standards, procedures, and techniques. Experience withmechanical and/or electronics fabrication and assembly, and familiarity with engineering hardware design, testing processes, and general machining or assembly practices. Experience using or supportingdiagnostic equipment, control systems, or data acquisition systemsin an experimental or test environment. Ability tomaintain detailed technical records and documentation, including procurement, maintenance, and experimental data. Ability towork safely with or around hazardous materials Additional qualifications at the 538.3 level High level technical skills and knowledge ofengineering principles, manufacturing and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) processesto support complex procurements and fabrication tasks using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures. Demonstrated experienceleading or coordinating technical taskson project teams, and providing technical direction or guidance to others. Extensive experienceinterfacing with vendors and suppliers, including technical clarification, resolving fabrication issues, and managing quality, cost, and schedule tradeoffs. Advanced ability tointerpret complex assembly procedures, detailed engineering notes, and drawings, and to identify inconsistencies or issues that may impact fabrication, assembly, or maintenance.
