POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under moderate supervision, the Dispensary Technician 1 will provide in a professional manner the supply and equipment sterilization for all dental clinics/graduate clinics. The dispensary technician wearing the correct and provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will receive, process, sterilize and distribute all instruments as needed in the dental clinics. The dispensary staff is responsible for the distribution or storage of hand pieces, instruments, dental materials, and personal protective equipment on a daily basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitor and log biological assurance test on sterilizers for sterility on a daily basis. Monitor and log daily testing on ultrasonic and washers daily. Monitor solutions used in washers, ultrasonic, decontamination sink and cart washer daily. Notify supervisor of instrument cleaning or sterilization malfunctions. Receive, clean, sterilize and dispense all instruments and devices associated with all clinics as directed. Decontaminate, ultrasonic/power wash cassettes, instruments and equipment as outlined in their respective manufacturer¿s instructions for use. Perform weekly, biweekly and monthly cleaning on sterilization equipment as described in the department manual. Sort sets of instruments and check for loss or breakage and report to supervisor. Follow infection control procedures regarding wrapping and sterilization of instruments, cassettes, and equipment. After sterilization, remove items from sterilizer and move them to cart for delivery to correct dispensary or storage area. Follow safety procedures including wearing the provided PPE to ensure personal safety, as well as the safety of others. (35%) Receive and process instruments used in the dental clinics. Collect cart(s) from sterilization with instruments, cassettes and handpieces to take to the dispensaries. Distribute/scan materials, cassettes and handpieces out by appropriate ID. Collect ¿dirty¿ instruments, cassettes and materials; scan in instruments, cassettes and personally place in cart. Transport carts of instruments, cassettes, and handpieces to sterilization. Properly clean any materials according to manufacturer¿s instructions and return to the dispensary. (35%) Daily stocking of the dispensaries, sterilization area and student storage areas with the appropriate materials. Stock the student lab with gypsums and lab boxes. Review inventory in storage areas. Assess what supplies need to be ordered and inform supervisor. (20%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Distribute in-house clean lab coats to the students, faculty, and staff. Monitor and notify your supervisor when gowns/ coats are not being processed on a timely basis to ensure coats and gowns are available daily. (5%) Inventory; notify supervisor of items that need to be ordered for both the dispensaries and sterilization. (5%) Maintain cleanliness of dispensary area, including washing shelves, dust mopping floor and maintaining sterilization equipment in a clean presentable appearance. (
