This role verifies that work conforms to drawings, specifications, technical requirements, and contract standards while supporting quality control across multiple phases of repair. The position requires strong knowledge of ship construction and repair processes, inspection methods, NDT practices, and technical documentation. Assignments are project-based and may continue based on performance and contract demand, with the potential for long-term placement or permanent hire with select clients. Responsibilities Perform Quality Assurance Inspector duties using established inspection methods, procedures, setups, and prescribed specifications to verify compliance with applicable requirements. Conduct QA inspections, tests, and surveillance audits throughout various phases and stages of ship repair. Verify completed work against drawings, specifications, military standards, regulatory requirements, and shipbuilding specifications. Inspect ship repair work involving welding, structural systems, machinery, electrical systems, piping, and ventilation. Set, self-calibrate, and properly use assigned testing, measuring, inspection, and QA instruments. Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, military standards, specifications, and applicable test requirements. Perform inspections in tanks, voids, cofferdams, elevated areas, and other shipboard spaces as required. Identify quality issues and use established problem-solving methods to support corrective actions and recommended solutions. Requirements Technical or Associate Degree in Quality Assurance, marine technology, or a related field; equivalent trade-related training or experience may be considered. Four to six years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent ship repair/trade-related experience. Must hold or be able to obtain NDT Level II certification for assigned methods, including VT, PT, MT, and UT, in accordance with applicable NAVSEA technical publication requirements. Must hold applicable coating inspection certification through NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector, NACE Coating Inspector Program Level 1 or higher, or SSPC Protective Coating Inspector Program Level 2. Strong working knowledge of ship construction and repair procedures, including welding, structural, machinery, electrical, piping, and ventilation work. Ability to read and understand blueprints, military standards and specifications, regulatory requirements, shipbuilding specifications, and technical manuals. Ability to work at heights, climb vertical ladders, enter tanks, voids, and cofferdams, work around moving machinery, and use access equipment such as scissor lifts and similar elevated platforms. Ability to safely use precision measuring devices and assigned testing, inspection, and Quality Assurance instruments. Preferred Qualifications Previous Quality Assurance Inspector experience supporting Navy or military ship repair projects. Knowledge of ship repair testing requirements and quality documentation practices. Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma principles and their application to basic problem solving. Computer proficiency and familiarity with NASSCO or similar shipyard computer systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment when coordinating with production and quality personnel. Additional Information Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments supporting Navy and commercial repair operations. Duties may involve confined or elevated spaces, tanks, voids, cofferdams, ladders, access equipment, moving machinery, and active production areas. Exposure to industrial noise, energized systems, dust, fumes, and environmental conditions is expected; respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on production needs.
