These duties include monitoring and operating the wastewater treatment plant(s) in accordance with applicable regulations and permit requirements and to ensure safe and efficient operation of machines and equipment facilitate flow and treatment of wastewater and to monitor the effectiveness of water treatment; duties may be changed with or without notice. GENERAL PURPOSE

PRIMARY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional; position-specific duties. Performs scheduled maintenance and repairs according to operating manuals. Inspects; diagnoses and repairs pumps and motors. Maintains lift stations; collects samples and performs tests. Assists and informs co-workers about information regarding safe handling of equipment. Maintains accurate records and documentation for the City; TCEQ and other agencies. Adhering to all safety rules regarding confined spaces and trenching. Cross-trains in other areas of the City; as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year experience or training in wastewater treatment. Must be able to work an on-call schedule. Basic computer skills; preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Valid Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record. TCEQ Class "D" Wastewater Operator License TCEQ Class "C" Wastewater Operator License; preferred ; if hired without; it must obtained within one (1) year from date of hire.

Required Knowledge of:

Safety policies; procedures; and practices. Applicable local; State; and Federal laws; codes; regulations; and ordinances.

Required Skill in:

Following written and verbal instructions. Maintaining a professional manner when interacting with City employees and the public. Reading and interpreting maintenance and equipment manuals. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Operation of various types of equipment including hand-tools; chain saws; mowers and weed-eaters.

Reasoning Abilities:

Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public. Ability to prepare performance evaluations and make recommendations regarding employee performance. Ability to create work schedules; prioritize work; schedule time-off and adjust schedules as needed. Ability to read; comprehend; retain and apply City and State policies and legislation; including City ordinances; policy and procedure manuals; written instructions; general correspondence; MSDS sheets; safety manuals; traffic signs; warning labels; etc. Ability to take control of a situation; dictating subordinate activities in a responsible manner when necessary. Ability to think quickly; maintain self-control and adapt to stressful situations. Ability to use good judgement and effectively problem-solve.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff; supervisor; and the public. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations. AJ Brown and NB Davidson Wastewater Treatment Plant staff: Facial hair must be maintained to properly wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) full and half-piece air purifying respirators and other job-specific safety equipment and ability to pass a SCBA fit test throughout employment; as required by position(s); and must complete the annual 3M Online Respirator Medical Evaluation. Work may include physical activities such as balancing; stooping; kneeling; crouching; standing; walking; pushing; pulling; lifting; grasping; feeling; talking; hearing/listening; seeing/observing; bending/twisting and performing repetitive motions. Job requires lifting of heavy objects weighing approximately 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close; distant and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
