Job Description:

Certified Structural Welder Role Overview We are looking for a precision-driven Certified Structural Welder to join our fabrication and field assembly team. Unlike general welding, this role focuses specifically on the load-bearing frameworks of buildings, bridges, and heavy infrastructure. You will be responsible for creating high-strength welds that meet stringent building codes and withstand immense structural stress.

Key Responsibilities Fusion Excellence:

Perform high-quality welds in multiple positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) using SMAW (Stick) and FCAW (Flux-Cored) processes.

Blueprint Proficiency:

Interpret complex structural drawings, welding symbols, and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) to ensure every bead meets engineering requirements.

Joint Preparation:

Clean, grind, and bevel workpieces; set up jigs and fixtures to ensure proper alignment and "fit-up" before welding.

Inspection & Quality Control:

Conduct visual inspections of finished welds to check for porosity, undercut, or slag inclusion. Cooperate with third-party CWI (Certified Welding Inspectors) for ultrasonic or X-ray testing.

Equipment Maintenance:

Calibrate welding machines, monitor gas flow/pressures, and maintain torches and stingers to ensure optimal performance. Technical Requirements & Certifications The integrity of our structures depends on your credentials.

AWS D1.1

Current certification for Structural Steel (Carbon Steel). Welding Processes Mastery of FCAW-S (Self-shielded) and SMAW (7018 electrodes). Testing Standards Ability to pass a 3G and 4G position "bend test" or radiographic exam. Safety Training OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety and Health Card. Material Knowledge Expertise in the properties of A36 and A992 structural steels.

Technical Expertise:

The Structural Joint Structural welders must be experts in various joint configurations. Precision in these setups prevents structural failure. CJP (Complete Joint Penetration): Ensuring the weld metal extends through the entire thickness of the base metal.

Fillet Welds:

Applying triangular beads at the intersection of two perpendicular surfaces (e.g., beam to column flanges).

Physical Requirements Endurance:

Ability to work in awkward or cramped positions for extended periods.

Vision:

Excellent depth perception and the ability to see clearly through a welding hood/filter lens.

Lifting:

Capable of handling materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs .

Environment:

Willingness to work at heights (on scaffolding or lifts) and in varied weather conditions.

Preferred Skills Gouging:

Proficiency with Air Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC-A) for removing defective welds or back-gouging joints.

Mathematics:

Strong understanding of geometry and trigonometry for calculating weld volume and joint angles.

Rigging Knowledge:

Basic understanding of crane signals and load securement for positioning heavy steel members.
