Job Description

Manual Sub-Arc Welder Hours:
6:30am-3pm, M-F Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Manual Sub-Arc Welder to join our heavy fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating manual or semi-automatic Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) equipment and be comfortable working with heavy metal components in an industrial manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for setting up and operating Sub-Arc welding equipment, preparing materials, interpreting blueprints and welding specifications, and producing high-quality structural welds. Responsibilities Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic Submerged Arc Welding equipment. Adjust voltage, amperage, wire feed speed, travel speed, and flux flow according to job requirements. Guide Sub-Arc equipment along joints, seams, and cylindrical vessels to produce high-deposition welds. Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) . Prepare, position, clamp, and tack-weld components prior to final welding. Grind and clean materials before and after welding. Inspect completed welds for defects including porosity, cracks, slag inclusions, undercut, and lack of fusion. Perform basic measurements using tape measures, calipers, and other shop measuring tools . Perform basic shop math and follow welding specifications and production requirements. Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of welding heads, flux recovery systems, and welding power sources. Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area. Perform MIG and TIG welding as needed. Work safely around heavy equipment, large metal components, and industrial machinery. Qualifications 1-3+ years of Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) experience preferred. Previous experience in heavy fabrication, structural welding, or industrial manufacturing . Ability to operate manual or semi-automatic Sub-Arc welding equipment. Ability to read and understand blueprints, welding symbols, and WPS documentation. Experience with MIG and TIG welding preferred. Familiarity with welding inspection and identifying common weld defects. Ability to use tape measures, calipers, and basic shop measuring tools. Basic understanding of shop math. AWS welder/operator qualification for Submerged Arc Welding is a plus. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds . Ability to stand, bend, reach, and work for extended periods in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Reliable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a production team.
