Job Description

Marine Outboard Technician We are looking for a skilled Marine Outboard Technician to join our service team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of outboard engines, ensuring our customers' vessels are water-ready and safe. Position is 5 days a week and some Saturdays 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. Paid holidays after 90 days on the job and vacation earned after 1 year. Key Responsibilities •
Diagnostics & Repair:
Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on 2-stroke and 4-stroke outboard engines, including Mercury, Yamaha, Evinrude, and Mariner brands. •
System Maintenance:
Service fuel systems, electrical components, powerheads, and lower units. •
Computer Diagnostics:
Utilize manufacturer-specific diagnostic software (e.g., Mercury G3, Yamaha) to identify fault codes and performance issues. •
Rigging:
Install new engines, controls, steering systems (hydraulic and cable), and marine electronics. •
Quality Control:
Conduct lake tests and tank tests to verify repairs and ensure engines meet manufacturer specifications. •
Documentation:
Accurately log work orders, parts used, and technical findings for customer records. Technical Requirements •
Engine Expertise:
Proven experience working with major outboard brands (Mercury and Yamaha proficiency is highly preferred). •
Legacy Knowledge:
Ability to service older models, including Evinrude E-TECs and Mariner carbureted engines. •
Tools:
Must possess a comprehensive set of personal tools; specialized marine tools will be provided. •
Physical Ability:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions (climbing into boats, kneeling, and reaching into tight engine compartments). Qualifications •
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of professional marine technician experience. •
Certification:
Manufacturer certifications (Mercury/Yamaha) are a significant plus . •
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training in marine mechanics is preferred. •
License:
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record for moving trailers and conducting water tests. Soft Skills •
Detail-Oriented:
A "fix it right the first time" mentality. •
Communication:
Ability to explain technical issues clearly to service advisors or customers. •
Adaptability:
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving marine technology. Out of state applicants encouraged to apply.
