Social Practitioner Breakthrough House Inc - 3.1 Topeka, KS Job Details Full-time $18 - $22 an hour 19 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Paid time off Qualifications Community partnership development Teamwork Collaboration Workforce development
Full Job Description Summary:
The Social Practitioner at The Lotus House is a core partner in our member‑driven Clubhouse community. Fixed in the International Clubhouse Model, this role centers on working side‑by‑side with members throughout the Work‑Ordered Day, building meaningful relationships, supporting recovery through purposeful work, and strengthening each member's connection to the broader Topeka community. Social Practitioners help members identify and pursue personal, social, educational, and employment goals. The role is grounded in collaboration, shared responsibility, and an authentic belief that all people are capable of recovery, meaningful work, and belonging.
Key Responsibilities:
Work-Ordered Day Partnership:
Working side-by-side with members in all areas of Clubhouse operations, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and momentum to shared work. Model engagement and invite participation, helping create a lively, welcoming environment where members feel empowered to contribute. Demonstrate an authentic belief that every member is capable of growth, recovery, and meaningful work, and let that belief guide daily interactions.
Member Support and Relationship Building:
Build warm, supportive relationships with members through shared work and genuine partnership. Offer encouragement, problem‑solving, and motivation as members pursue personal, social, educational, and employment goals. Approach every interaction with the understanding that members are capable, talented, and deserving of real opportunities, and support them in stepping into those strengths.
Skill Building and Community Connection:
Support members in developing social, vocational, and daily living skills through hands-on learning and meaningful work. Assist members in accessing community resources, employment opportunities, and social activities that strengthen belonging, confidence, and independence.
Team Collaboration and Clubhouse Culture:
Collaborate with staff, members, and community partners to maintain a positive, energetic Clubhouse culture. Help cultivate an environment where staff and members share a belief in each person's ability to recover, contribute, and thrive, and where that belief is visible in daily work, tone, and expectations.
Documentation and Communication:
Complete outreach logs, employment development notes, and other required documentation in alignment with Clubhouse International Standards and agency policy. Communicate clearly with colleagues to support coordinated member engagement and continuity of support.
Work Schedule:
This position follows the rhythm of the Work-Ordered Day, with most work occurring on-site at the Clubhouse.
Core hours:
Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm Community‑based work: Some work occurs off‑site, including job support, outreach visits, partnership activities, and tabling events.
Social programming:
Participation in rotating evenings (once weekly), weekend (once monthly), and holiday activities that strengthen community connection.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Experience in collaborative, community-based, people-centered work where partnership and shared responsibility are core. Background in environments that value empowerment over hierarchy, and where staff work with people rather than directing or managing them. Experience supporting individuals through strengths‑based, recovery‑oriented, or skill‑building roles (education, peer support, community programs, workforce development, volunteer coordination, coaching, etc.).
Education:
Relevant education or lived experience in community-based, people-centered, or strengths-focused environments. Formal degrees are welcome but not required; authenticity, energy, and the ability to work side‑by‑side with members are valued above traditional credentials. Candidates from backgrounds such as community programs, peer support, education, nonprofit work, coaching, or volunteer coordination are strongly encouraged to apply.
Skills:
Ability to build warm, authentic relationships with members through shared work and genuine partnership. Capacity to bring energy, enthusiasm, and motivation into the Work‑Ordered Day. Clear, empathetic communication with members, colleagues, and community partners. Comfort navigating a fast‑paced, member‑driven environment with many moving parts. Ability to facilitate hands‑on learning, skill building, and member‑led workshops.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with Clubhouse International Standards and a commitment to practicing within the Clubhouse Model. Understanding of strengths‑based, recovery‑oriented approaches where members are seen as capable contributors. Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative, member‑driven environment.
Values:
A genuine belief that all people are capable of recovery, meaningful work, and belonging, and a commitment to modeling that belief every day. Dedication to empowerment, inclusion, dignity, and shared leadership. Passion for creating a lively, welcoming environment where collaboration and community are at the heart of the work. The Social Practitioner reflects the Clubhouse commitment to shared work, mutual respect, and the understanding that every member has strengths to contribute. Staff in this role support a culture of belonging, empowerment, and recovery through consistent partnership and engagement.
