DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Interpretive Services program director this position performs complex (journey level) administrative and supervisory program work for the State Parks Digital Media team. Responsible for planning, organizing, writing, and editing content to support the State Parks website, intranet, calendar of events, and digital publications. Coordinates with a team of content experts to plan and update content using the Plone Content Management System. Writes and edits web content optimal for all digital formats. Oversees digital accessibility for state parks, including complying with state and federal guidelines and training staff. Trains agency staff in how to write effectively and use the Plone Content Management System. Establishes and follows editorial workflows and creates and manages spreadsheets to track editorial and accessibility progress. Supervises State Parks web administrator distant learning and school engagement specialist. Serves as the primary contact for the division for web-based products. Ensures digital content adheres to agency policy and follows industry best practices. May assist with web-based promotional campaigns. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

Experience:

Four years of experience in planning, writing, editing or creating web or print content for the public information sector, outdoor industry, parks interpretation or closely related areas.



Two years of experience supervising the work of others.

NOTE:

Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure:

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class 'C' Texas driver's license.

NOTE:

Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS
Education:

One additional year of the required experience in planning, writing, editing or creating web or print content for the public information sector, outdoor industry, parks interpretation or closely related areas may substitute for 30 semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Web Design, or closely related degree.

Experience:

Experience using the Plone content management system;Experience creating content for mobile websites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of rules of style, grammar, spelling and punctuation, including the AP Style Manual.



Knowledge of web content management systems and workflow processes.



Knowledge of mobile website content requirements.



Knowledge of

WCAG 2.1

accessibility guidelines.



Skill in writing, editing, and proofreading web and/or print content.



Skill in effective verbal and written communication.



Skill in using MS Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.



Skill in making documents accessible to screen reader software.



Skill in using content management systems.



Skill in planning, organizing and archiving, with attention to detail.



Skill in setting timelines and managing several projects simultaneously.



Skill in coordinating the editorial work of various writers and teams.



Skill in training others.



Skill in maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.



Skill in using Plone.



Ability to write content for web pages in a customer-focused, conversational style that is easy to scan with a strong customer point of view.



Ability to maintain complex sets of documentation (such as Plone user group accounts, training guidelines, and web-related spreadsheets).Ability to work as a member of a team.



Ability to take creative direction.



Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.



Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program. WORKING CONDITIONSRequired to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; alternative work schedule may be available.



Required to work overtime as necessary.



Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays.



Required to operate a State vehicle.



Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.



Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
