Definition of Success:
The Product Manager is responsible for the strategy, roadmap, and development of a cost viable, fully developed, and approved product or product line. This role spans many types of activities, from strategic to tactical. A Product Manager provides cross-functional leadership and bridges organizational gaps between different functional groups, most often between creative, sales, operations, and licensors.
Key Areas of Focus:
Product Development Ownership Own assigned product development programs from initial concept through approval, sampling, costing, production readiness, and final handoff. Create, maintain, and communicate product development schedules, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are clearly understood by all stakeholders. Serve as the main internal point of contact for assigned programs, keeping Creative, Sales, Operations, and vendors aligned on status, priorities, risks, and next steps. Ensure all required development documentation, samples, approvals, costing updates, and production details are completed accurately and on time. Schedule Management & Risk Resolution Drive schedule adherence by proactively tracking progress, identifying delays, and following up with the appropriate internal or external teams. Anticipate bottlenecks and escalate risks early, ensuring leadership and stakeholders have visibility to potential timing, cost, quality, or approval concerns. Develop practical and creative solutions for complex, compressed, or time-sensitive development schedules. Identify alternate paths forward when standard timelines or processes are not workable, while balancing customer expectations, internal capacity, cost, quality, and feasibility. Maintain clear communication around schedule changes, priority shifts, missed deadlines, and decisions required to keep programs moving. Team Leadership & Specialist Oversight Oversee assigned Product Development Specialist(s), providing day-to-day direction on priorities, timelines, documentation, sample tracking, and required follow-up. Ensure Product Development Specialist(s) understand current program priorities and have the information, tools, and support needed to complete work accurately and on time. Review work from Product Development Specialist(s) as needed to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with customer, vendor, and internal requirements. Help assign, clarify, and reprioritize work for Product Development Specialist(s) based on program needs, deadlines, and changing business priorities. Provide coaching and guidance to Product Development Specialist(s) on communication, organization, follow-through, problem-solving, and product development process expectations. Monitor workload and progress of assigned Product Development Specialist(s), helping identify potential delays, gaps, or support needs before they impact program schedules. Cross-Functional Communication Partner closely with Creative, Sales, Operations, and vendors to resolve development questions and keep projects progressing. Translate customer needs, creative direction, timing requirements, and operational constraints into clear action plans for the development team. Communicate program status clearly and consistently, ensuring stakeholders understand what is on track, what is at risk, and what decisions or actions are needed. Facilitate timely follow-up between departments to prevent delays, miscommunication, or missed handoffs. Process Improvement Support ongoing improvements to product development processes, trackers, templates, reporting tools, and communication methods. Identify recurring issues in the development process and recommend ways to improve speed, clarity, accountability, and consistency. Help establish best practices for schedule tracking, sample management, vendor follow-up, and internal communication.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree 3 to 5 years of experience in product development, merchandising, or buying role, preferably with licensed product. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience with product management software. Strong project management and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to maintain a keen attention to detail and work well under pressure Natural tendency to be curious, positive, and creative Team player who collaborates well with others
