We partner with skilled manufacturers and artisans around the world to develop distinctive, high-quality products that balance exceptional design with thoughtful engineering and craftsmanship. As we continue to expand our product assortment and supplier network, we are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented individual to support the development and sourcing process from initial concept through production readiness. Position Overview Modern Matter is seeking a Sourcing & Product Development Associate to support the execution of new product development and ongoing sourcing initiatives across our global supplier network. Reporting to the Head of Operations, this role will serve as a key operational link between Product Development, Operations, our overseas CAD designer, and international manufacturing partners. The Sourcing & Product Development Associate will help manage the day-to-day development process, ensuring designs, technical information, samples, supplier feedback, costing, and timelines move efficiently from concept through final approval and production. This is a highly cross-functional and execution-focused role. The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized, comfortable communicating with international suppliers, technically curious, and capable of managing multiple product development workstreams simultaneously without losing sight of details or deadlines. Key Responsibilities Product Development & Sample Management Coordinate new product development from initial design handoff through approved production sample. Maintain development timelines and track products through each stage of the development process. Coordinate sample requests, revisions, approvals, and follow-up with suppliers. Receive, organize, photograph, label, and maintain development and reference samples. Consolidate internal sample feedback and communicate clear, actionable revisions to suppliers. Maintain accurate records of sample iterations, approvals, technical changes, and outstanding action items. Proactively identify development delays, missing information, or unresolved issues and escalate them as needed. Support the transition of approved developments from sampling into production. Supplier Communication & Sourcing Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for overseas suppliers regarding product development, sampling, specifications, costing, and timelines. Maintain consistent follow-up with suppliers to ensure development milestones and commitments remain on schedule. Request and organize product quotations, MOQs, lead times, material information, tooling costs, and other sourcing data. Support supplier research and evaluation for new products, materials, manufacturing capabilities, and sourcing opportunities. Assist the Head of Operations with supplier negotiations, sourcing analysis, and development decisions by maintaining accurate and organized information. Coordinate quality concerns and development corrections with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Maintain organized supplier records, development documentation, costing, and correspondence. CAD & Technical Development Coordination Coordinate workflow between Product Development, the overseas CAD designer, Operations, and suppliers. Manage CAD requests, priorities, revisions, and deadlines across active developments. Ensure design feedback and technical revisions are clearly documented and communicated. Track CAD files and revision history to ensure teams and suppliers are working from current, approved information. Coordinate supplier technical feedback with Product Development and the CAD designer to resolve manufacturability issues. Help ensure approved drawings, specifications, finishes, dimensions, and other technical details are accurately reflected in final development documentation. Development Operations & Data Management Maintain a centralized product development tracker with accurate status, ownership, deadlines, and next steps across all active developments. Maintain product development information and sourcing data within NetSuite and other internal systems. Support new SKU setup and ensure accurate product, supplier, costing, lead-time, and sourcing information is captured prior to launch. Maintain organized digital files for CAD drawings, specifications, quotations, sample approvals, finish standards, and supplier documentation. Support costing and landed-cost analysis by gathering and validating supplier pricing, packaging, freight, tooling, and related inputs. Partner with Operations to ensure new developments are operationally ready before transitioning into purchasing and production. Assist with continuous improvement of sourcing and product development processes, trackers, documentation, and supplier workflows. Cross-Functional Coordination Partner closely with Product Development and Operations to translate design concepts into manufacturable, commercially viable products. Communicate development status, risks, decisions needed, and upcoming milestones to relevant stakeholders. Coordinate information between internal teams and suppliers to prevent delays caused by incomplete or conflicting direction. Help prepare for development reviews and supplier meetings by organizing samples, drawings, costing, timelines, and outstanding decisions. Drive follow-up and accountability across assigned development workstreams. Qualifications 3+ years of experience in product development, sourcing, manufacturing, supply chain, or a related role within a product-based business. Experience coordinating directly with domestic or international manufacturers and suppliers is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple development timelines, samples, revisions, and priorities simultaneously. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate feedback into clear, actionable direction for suppliers. Strong follow-through and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. Comfortable working with technical product information, specifications, drawings, measurements, and manufacturing terminology. Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle NetSuite preferred. Proficiency with Google Workspace and project or development tracking tools. Bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations, business, product development, industrial design, or a related field preferred. Experience in hardware, furniture, home furnishings, luxury goods, or another design-driven manufacturing environment is a plus.
