Job Description
Part-Time Organist & Pianist , St. Matthew's By-The-Sea United Methodist Church The misson of St. Matthew's By-The-Sea is to make, nurture, and inspire followers of Jesus Christ who grow in their love for God and neighbor. ................................................................................................................................................................................. The church Organist/Pianist will support the worship and theological mission of The United Methodist Church, utilizing The United Methodist Hymnal , The Faith We Sing , and other appropriate worship resources while providing a balance of traditional, seasonal, and congregational music. Primary Responsibilities The church Organist/Pianist will primarily be responsible for the following: Providing music for the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday mornings year-round. (Includes, but is not limited to congregational hymns, prelude, offertory, doxology, postlude, and monthly communion music.) Providing music for other special services throughout the year. (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Longest Night Service [Dec.], and Christmas Eve.) Meet with the pastor monthly to collaborate on worship service logistics. Oversight The church Organist/Pianist will report to the pastor. The church Organist/Pianist will meet annually with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee for a staff evaluation. Qualifications Familiarity with Christian worship and the role of music within worship. Knowledge of traditional hymns and/or United Methodist worship resources. Ability to collaborate in worship planning. Formal music education or equivalent experience preferred. Sunday's Off The Organist and pianist is provided four (4) paid Sundays off per year. Vacation Sundays should be scheduled in advance in consultation with the pastor. The church will arrange and compensate a substitute musician during approved vacation Sundays.
