Collaborative Pianist Position Description :

United Church of Christ - Judd Street is seeking a Collaborative Pianist and Choir Accompanist to provide piano music during worship services and musical accompaniment for the church choirs and ensembles. The Pianist shall report to and receive direction from the Director of Music Ministries.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide modern/conteporary music during Sunday church services and special holiday services. 2. Provide piano accompaniment to the Church Choir during rehearsals and at services. 3. Provide piano accompaniment for other choirs and ensembles for worship service as needed. 4. Work in coordination with the Senior Pastor and Director of Music Ministries for worship services as needed. 5. Provide piano music for weddings, funerals or memorial services when requested and available. (A separate remuneration will be paid for such service by the party requesting the services when such services are rendered.) 6. Comply with all applicable Employment, Safe Church, and Conflict of Interest policies.

Job Requirements :

1. Flexibility to play in blended style worship services (incorporating both traditional and more modern music). 2. Knowledge of the instrument and keyboard ability sufficient to play hymns, modern songs and anthem accompaniments. Ability to sight-read and improvise is desired. 3. High degree of competence on piano, and the ability to accompany groups and individuals. 4. Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or re- harmonizations. 5. Ability to read chord charts and lead sheets. 6. Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music. 7. Sensitivity and the ability to interact with a variety of people. 8. Ability to take direction and work as a team member. 9. Ability to communicate well and in a friendly manner with the church leadership, church choir, and members of the congregation. 10. Desire to maintain a constant program of self-improvement.

Employment Terms:

1. The term of this contract shall be for one year and may be renewed yearly. Either party may terminate this contract upon thirty (30) days prior written notice. 2.

Compensation and Benefits:

a. The total annual compensation shall be up to $11,960.00, commensurate with experience and skill, paid on a biweekly basis. b. Workers' Compensation, State Unemployment Tax Contributions (SUTA) and Federal Insurance Contributions (FICA). 3. The Pianist's work schedule, including any planned leave of absences, shall be coordinated with the Director of Music Ministries or Senior Pastor. In the event that Pianist is to be absent or on leave, Pianist shall arrange for a substitute pianist. UCC-Judd will compensate said substitute directly. Pianist will not be paid for any time off.
