Immediately About Morningside Morningside United Methodist Church is a welcoming, inclusive, Reconciling congregation in Salem, Oregon. We seek to create worship that is thoughtful, participatory, and rooted in God's love, justice, grace, and compassion. Primary Responsibilities Serve as pianist and organist for weekly Sunday worship services. Prepare and play preludes, offertories, postludes, hymns, service music, and other worship music. Accompany congregational singing with confidence, warmth, and musical leadership. Opportunity to collaborate with the pastor in selecting music that complements the scripture, liturgy, and worship theme. Accompany choir rehearsals and worship presentations as scheduled. Provide music for seasonal services including Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas Eve, and other special celebrations. Collaborate cooperatively with volunteer musicians and guest instrumentalists when appropriate. Assist in maintaining the church's music library and taking care of musical instruments. Arrange for qualified substitute musicians when unavailable. Qualifications Strong proficiency in piano and/or organ. Excellent sight-reading and accompanying skills. Experience supporting congregational singing in a mainline Protestant worship setting. Familiarity with traditional hymnody and liturgical worship but also integration of various musical styles. Ability to collaborate with clergy, volunteers, and other musicians. Reliability, professionalism, and effective communication. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a worshiping community; accompanying. Instruments Our sanctuary features a well-maintained Estonia grand piano and a well-maintained pipe organ.
