Job Description

The Rehabilitation Services Manger is responsible for coordinating patient care provided by the Rehabilitation Department. This position also provides direct patient care by exercise, pain reduction, strengthening activities or adaptations in lifestyle to optimize physical functioning; and education of patients and their families.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education/Experience:
Requires a MS in Physical Therapy and current licensing for physical therapist in Kansas.
Technical Skills:
Must have the visual and auditory abilities to assess patient and equipment condition to perform effective care. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, families, staff, co-worker, and physicians. Must be able to adequately perform all Physical Therapist duties including using proper body mechanics to assist adult residents in ambulating, turning in bed and transferring in and out of bed or wheelchair. Must have the physical strength and agility to respond in a quick manner in accordance with facility practice regarding expected and unexpected patient needs. Must have the physical strength to transfer and lift to assist with transferring, repositioning and range of motion of adult residents. Must have the ability to complete forms and records.
Other qualifications/certificate/license:
Current CPR Certification; access to reliable transportation to ensure their ability to provide service to all patients; valid state driver's license; proof of automobile insurance that meets at least the minimum state mandated insurance requirements.
PC Competencies:
The incumbent must learn some typing and computer skills The incumbent must demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of the Windows environment as well as an ability to access and use information in meaningful ways. The incumbent must have the ability to access, manipulate, organize and relay information in meaningful ways using email, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. Support DH vision and mission; maintain confidentiality of all work information; demonstrate an ability to function successfully in a team environment; exhibit courteous, compassionate and respectful treatment of internal and external customers; display a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations; participate in identifying problems and suggesting solutions.
DECISION MAKING LATITUDE
This position is responsible for hiring and firing of workers and granting wage increases with in the department with administrative approval. Budget preparation and all other financial productivity management, and QA is required of this position. Problems encountered in this department are expected to be resolved by the Rehabilitation Services Manager. It is conceivable that assistance/cooperation from the providers or administrator may be necessary to fully resolve some problems. Major Challenges for this position are: 1) dealing with the wide variety of personalities displayed by providers, patients, and staff; 2) providing a variety of patient services in an ever-changing department. The incumbent is challenged to be courteous and tactful with patients, residents, staff and others to promote a positive image of the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Rehabilitation Services Manager is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of daily operation of the Rehabilitation Department. This includes evaluating and training department employees, recommending salary changes, interpreting facility and department policies, analyzing and resolving employee problems, initiating plans to motivate employees, and ensuring supplies and equipment are available. This also includes providing input into fiscal budget, managing finances accordingly and established and directing departmental QA programs. The incumbent completes an initial evaluation, initiates treatment plans and goals, performs or monitors application of treatment procedures, and adjusts or modifies treatment as appropriate for patients. This includes communicating with physicians and following established policies and procedures in the use of therapeutic exercises; functional activities such as ambulating and ADL's; treatments involving physical agents such as heat, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound and TENS; and administering massage and traction treatments. The incumbent performs record keeping duties on patients. This includes completing progress notes and discharge summaries. The incumbent provides educational services to patients, families, staff and the community. This includes educating the patients and families on condition, treatments, home programs and responsibilities at home. It also includes providing in-service education on body mechanics, back safety, and new physical therapy procedures to staff. The incumbent participates on committees, task forces, and represents the department at meetings. The incumbent complies with all hospital wide and departmental Safety and Infection control Policies. This includes maintaining the department in a clean and orderly manner. The incumbent participates in program development and implementation of innovative ideas. The incumbent assumes the position of Certified Physical Therapist Assistant as needed. In addition to the functions described above, this role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon DH needs or requirements.
