Reports to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
Primary Accountability:
A Registered Nurse (RN) at a Critical Access Hospital plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in a rural healthcare setting. This position requires adaptability, clinical expertise, and leadership. The Outpatient/HPM RN provides nursing care to outpatient, and HPM patients. Strong decision-making, teamwork, and a commitment to patient safety are essential. The incumbent may be called upon to provide nursing care to emergency patients and patients in the facility. The major challenges of this position are to assure a smooth flow of cases and transfers of patients to diverse areas of the hospital; participate in nursing activities that ensure positive patient outcome in a timely and effective manner; promote effective working relationships with other personnel, providers, patients and families; and remain current in all aspects of patient care. The incumbent is challenged to be courteous and tactful with patients, families, staff and others to promote a positive image of the facility.
Registered Nurse Duties:
The Operating Room Registered Nurse acts as the Circulating Nurse in surgery. This includes providing direct nursing care to the surgery patient before, during and after surgery in accordance with established policies and procedures and consistent with current standards of practice. This includes ensuring that the patient is prepared for the procedure; observes the progress of the operation and anticipates the needs of members of the sterile surgical team; assists the anesthetist as needed; and completes a variety of OR reports. The incumbent acts as a recovery room nurse. This includes receiving, assessing and recording patient conditions on arrival from surgery; providing post-operative nursing care; reviewing and acting on physician orders; reporting unusual patient conditions; checking equipment and supplies; completing appropriate documentation; transferring the patient to the nursing unit; and giving a complete report to the staff nurse. Responsible for Surgical policy and procedures Acts as the outpatient Nurse (generally on Thursdays) The incumbent acts as the Surgical Technician / Technologist as needed. Ordering supplies for the nursing par Monitoring and refilling warmed and cooled IVF Assist at specialty clinic for other providers as needed Assist CRNA with LESI procedures and PICC lines Acts as the Holistic Pain Management (HPM) lead and Procedure nurse. Schedules and makes calls for all HPM procedures Orders and maintains par levels for all Holistic Pain Management supplies
Regulatory Requirements:
Graduate from a school of professional nursing Current Kansas license to practice as a Registered Nurse BLS Healthcare Provider Certification or willing to obtain upon hire Willing to obtain
TNCC, ACLS, PALS

Physical Demands:
Pushing and pulling heavy objects. Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients Eye/Hand, Eye/Foot, Hand/Foot Coordination. Normal eyesight, with or without corrective lenses. Normal hearing, with or without hearing aids. Standing and walking for extensive periods of time. The ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and kneel. The ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Work Environment:
Well-lit work area. Working under stressful conditions - physically demanding, high stress environment. Subject to irregular hours and frequent interruptions. Works under emergency situations. Public speaking before small and large groups. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses' conditions. Works in all patient care areas. Work with people under all conditions.
