Job Summary As the Purchasing Specialist, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, and supplies to support manufacturing operations. The Purchasing Specialist creates detailed purchasing orders (PO), purchasing requisitions, customer surveys, vendor reports and tracks on-time delivery. The administrative functions include creating buying schedules, planning, interpreting ASTM's and setting re-order points for commonly used materials. Education and Experience 3+ years of purchasing or buying experience. 2+ years of working in a manufacturing environment with knowledge of manufacturing software is preferred. Must have strong attention to detail and be able follow multi-step instructions. Ability to communicate effectively and be able to work well in a team environment. Must have a strong work ethic, with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. High School Diploma required. Primary Job Duties Create accurate and detailed purchase orders (PO's), purchasing requisitions, customer surveys, and reports regarding vendor deliveries. Maintain procurement records for items and/or services purchased, costs of goods, delivery dates and product quality. Create open orders for high volume items and plan deliveries for high value materials with extended lead times. Interpret ASTM documentation and manufacturing orders. Set re-order points for commonly used materials and negotiate with suppliers regarding volume discount pricing. Select products for purchase by testing and examining items to meet operational needs. Prepare, issue, and review purchase orders and change orders for authorization, accuracy and contract conformance. Support new projects and special orders by performing market research. Maintain the supplier management process system by keeping an approved vendor list, preparing vendor surveys, and following-up on corrective action reports. Additional duties as assigned by management. Language Skills Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents in English such as business periodicals, professional journals, government regulations, operating and production procedure manuals. The candidate must have the ability to write routine reports and should be able to speak effectively with internal and external customers in group settings and respond to questions from clients and customers. Mathematical Skills The employee must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as percentages, angles, surface areas, ratios, proportions and volume calculations with training. The fundamentals of Algebra II and Geometry will be used on a regular basis. Computer Skills Must be able to modify or complete forms and PDFs, and make basic functional use the Microsoft Office® suite of products with training (Word, Excel, and Outlook at a minimum). Physical Demands Performing the duties of this job requires the employee sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, twist, raise arms above shoulder height and extend arms in front of the body. The employee must have 20/20 vision with the use of corrective lenses if required.
