The primary focus of this role is to develop and maintain relationships with Speech-Language Pathologists, physician offices, therapy clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation programs, school systems, autism and developmental disability programs, and other healthcare referral sources that serve individuals who may benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Success in this position requires consistent time in the field identifying new referral opportunities, conducting face-to-face account visits, providing educational in-services and device demonstrations, supporting AAC evaluations, and developing referral sources into long-term partnerships. The AAC Clinical Sales Consultant is expected to independently manage and grow the assigned territory while providing a high level of clinical support to referral sources, patients, and families and complying with all company, accreditation, payer, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements. General Expectations Maintain regular, reliable and predictable attendance and independently manage a field-based work schedule. Spend the majority of working time in the assigned territory meeting face-to-face with referral sources, prospective accounts, clinicians and healthcare professionals. Maintain an organized territory plan that balances development of existing referral relationships with consistent prospecting for new accounts. Comply with all company policies, procedures, patient protocols, government regulations and professional standards. Develop and maintain expert working knowledge of AAC/SGD products, software, accessories, funding requirements and applicable payer coverage criteria. Represent the company professionally in physician offices, hospitals, therapy clinics, schools and other healthcare environments. Duties and Responsibilities Own the growth and development of the assigned territory and achieve company-established goals for referrals, evaluations, SGD placements, revenue and account development. Maintain an active field schedule with a company-established expectation of approximately 22-25 meaningful in-person referral-source visits per week, unless otherwise directed based on territory needs. Prospect for and develop new referral sources throughout the territory rather than relying solely on existing accounts. Develop strong working relationships with SLPs, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician office staff, therapy directors, case managers, social workers, discharge planners, special education professionals and other individuals involved in identifying and treating potential AAC candidates. Routinely visit and develop relationships with: Speech and pediatric therapy clinics Physician offices and specialty medical practices, including neurology, developmental pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, pulmonology and other specialties serving patients with communication impairments Hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation departments and rehabilitation facilities Autism/ABA clinics and developmental disability programs School systems and special education programs Early intervention programs Home health and private-duty nursing organizations University SLP programs Advocacy organizations and community programs serving individuals with complex communication needs Other appropriate healthcare and community referral sources Develop a strategic account plan for the territory, including identification and prioritization of A, B and C accounts, appropriate visit frequency, new-account targets and geographic routing. Conduct professional in-services, lunch-and-learns, AAC education programs, product demonstrations and one-on-one clinical education for referral sources. Identify potential AAC candidates within referral accounts and assist clinicians with determining when an AAC evaluation may be appropriate. Support SLPs and other clinicians during AAC evaluations, trials and demonstrations while maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries and documentation requirements. Educate physician offices and other ordering practitioners regarding SGD documentation, prescription/order requirements and the information necessary to support timely processing of an AAC referral. Maintain regular face-to-face contact with key referral sources based on account potential and performance. High-value/core accounts should receive more frequent contact while developing accounts should be managed according to an established territory plan. Follow up promptly on referrals generated from assigned accounts and serve as the primary relationship owner between the referral source and the company. Work collaboratively with internal intake, funding, documentation and operations teams to help resolve barriers that could unnecessarily delay an SGD evaluation, authorization or delivery. Maintain visibility into outstanding orders originating from the territory and help obtain missing clinical documentation from SLPs, physicians and referral sources when appropriate. Coordinate with DME partners when applicable and provide appropriate product, workflow and setup education. Provide or coordinate appropriate follow-up after SGD delivery to support a positive patient, caregiver and referral-source experience. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all field visits, referral activity, account development, opportunities and follow-up activities in the company's CRM and designated systems. Review territory performance regularly, including referral volume, evaluations, placements, conversion rates, account productivity, inactive accounts and new-account development. Maintain an organized pipeline of prospective accounts and follow up consistently until the opportunity is developed or appropriately closed. Participate in community events, conferences, professional meetings and other activities that create meaningful AAC referral opportunities. Assist with onboarding, field training and mentoring of future AAC Clinical Sales Consultants as the organization expands. Perform other responsibilities reasonably related to territory development and AAC services as needed. Performance Expectations Performance will be evaluated using a combination of results and field activity, which may include: Achievement of assigned SGD referral, evaluation, placement and revenue goals. Approximately 22-25 meaningful in-person referral-source visits per week. Consistent development of new referral-producing accounts, not simply maintenance of existing relationships. Appropriate frequency of contact with high-value/core accounts. Completion of scheduled in-services, demonstrations and educational programs. Growth in active referral sources and referrals per account. Timely follow-up on new leads, referrals and outstanding documentation. Accurate and timely CRM documentation. Effective geographic management of the assigned territory. Development and maintenance of a healthy pipeline of prospective referral sources. Qualifications
