Full-time About Our Client Our client is a rapidly growing battery energy storage system equipment distributor, financing provider and solutions partner serving commercial, industrial and utility-scale projects throughout the United States. The company helps developers, EPCs, IPPs, asset owners and commercial energy users overcome the financial, technical and supply-chain challenges that frequently delay battery storage projects. Its model combines batteries, inverters and energy management systems under one coordinated contract, while providing access to leading manufacturers, competitive equipment pricing and flexible financing structures. Our client is a small, highly entrepreneurial team where decisions are made quickly and every individual has a meaningful effect on company growth. This position offers direct access to the Managing Partner, technical leadership and strategic equipment suppliers. The Opportunity Our client is seeking an experienced and highly entrepreneurial Business Development Manager- Battery Energy Storage Systems to generate new business, activate an existing lead database and convert qualified opportunities into signed BESS projects.
- Approximately 40% Segment, prioritize and systematically develop a database of more than 1,000 existing leads Build structured outreach campaigns and follow-up sequences Conduct calls, emails, virtual meetings and other outbound activity Qualify opportunities based on project type, size, development stage, location, equipment requirements, financing needs and anticipated timeline Maintain complete and accurate records, activity, next steps and opportunity stages in HubSpot Re-engage inactive opportunities and identify projects that have progressed since the original contact Establish a consistent operating cadence for converting the existing database into a qualified sales pipeline Net-New Prospecting and Network Development•Approximately 30% Develop new opportunities with renewable-energy developers, EPCs, IPPs, utilities, asset owners, commercial and industrial energy users and channel partners Activate an established industry network to create immediate conversations and opportunities Build relationships with organizations developing commercial, industrial, microgrid and utility-scale battery storage projects Conduct consistent outbound prospecting and follow-up activity Attend conferences, trade shows, industry meetings and customer events Develop strategic relationships with equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, consultants, financing partners and other BESS market participants Identify new channels, partnerships and market opportunities that can accelerate company growth Technical Qualification and Equipment Selection•Approximately 20% Work with customers to understand project objectives, site constraints, use cases and performance requirements Interpret single-line diagrams and other preliminary project documentation Participate credibly in discussions involving: Battery chemistry C-rate Cycle life and degradation Augmentation strategy Battery sizing and duration Inverter and power conversion system pairing Energy management systems Microgrid controls and compatibility UL standards and code considerations Manufacturer warranties FEOC compliance Domestic-content considerations Tariff exposure Help customers compare manufacturers, equipment configurations and commercial trade-offs Coordinate with engineering, suppliers and leadership to develop technically and commercially appropriate recommendations Ensure opportunities are properly qualified before significant technical and commercial resources are committed Commercial Structuring and Deal Support•Approximately 10% Work directly with the Managing Partner to structure equipment, financing and commercial proposals Coordinate quotes, technical information and pricing with equipment suppliers Develop customer proposals and guide opportunities through commercial review and negotiation Maintain ownership of the customer relationship throughout the sales process Support contract negotiations and drive qualified opportunities toward execution Coordinate a thorough handoff to commercial operations, engineering and project-delivery stakeholders Remain engaged after contract execution to protect the customer relationship and identify future opportunities Maintain accurate pipeline reporting, forecasting and expected close dates What We're Looking For Required Experience At least five years of successful quota-carrying business development, technical sales or commercial experience within battery energy storage Direct BESS sales experience is mandatory; general renewable-energy or solar experience without meaningful battery storage experience will not be sufficient Demonstrated record of originating, developing and closing complex battery storage or related energy-infrastructure opportunities Ability to explain previous performance, quota achievement and individual deals in detail Existing network of developers, EPCs, IPPs, asset owners, utilities, commercial energy users or channel partners that can be activated immediately Strong understanding of how BESS projects are developed, financed, procured, constructed and commissioned Technical knowledge sufficient to support equipment selection and preliminary project qualification Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams Working knowledge of battery chemistry, C-rate, cycle life, degradation, augmentation, warranties, inverters, PCS equipment and energy management systems Genuine hunter mentality and comfort conducting consistent, high-volume outbound business development Disciplined follow-up habits and ability to work independently without extensive management structure Strong CRM discipline using HubSpot, Salesforce or a comparable system Ability to build, maintain and accurately forecast a qualified sales pipeline Strong commercial judgment and confidence discussing pricing, contracts and financing structures Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to explain complex technical and financial trade-offs to engineering, operational and executive stakeholders US-based and able to maintain working hours aligned with Pacific or Mountain Time Willingness to travel for conferences, customer meetings, supplier meetings and project-related activities Preferred Experience Experience selling into or alongside EPCs on utility-scale or large commercial and industrial projects Existing relationships within the California, Pacific Northwest, Mountain West or Texas energy-storage markets Experience selling battery systems, inverters, PCS equipment, EMS platforms or fully integrated BESS solutions Supplier-side, distributor or OEM experience Experience selling equipment-backed financing or commercially structured energy solutions Understanding of project-finance fundamentals, including the Investment Tax Credit, domestic-content adders and tax-equity considerations Working knowledge of FEOC compliance and current tariff exposure for battery-storage equipment Experience with microgrids, distributed energy resources, EV fleet charging or off-grid power applications Familiarity with relevant UL standards, fire codes, interconnection considerations and commissioning requirements Experience working in a startup, growth-stage or entrepreneurial organization Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate combines the drive of a true hunter with the technical credibility of an experienced BESS professional.
