Job Summary We are building a new residential real estate brokerage in West Michigan and are looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial real estate professional who wants to help build the operation from the ground up. This is not a traditional managing-broker role where you inherit an established office, agent roster, or book of business. The right person will help create the systems, recruit the first agents, establish a strong prospecting and listing culture, and ultimately serve as the licensed brokerage leader. Ownership brings established residential real estate investment, acquisition, renovation, construction, rental, and resale experience. The initial goal is intentionally lean: start with 1-2 productive agents, prove the model, and scale from there. We are looking for someone who wants responsibility, autonomy, performance-based upside, and the opportunity to build something meaningful rather than simply maintain an existing operation. What You'll Be Responsible For Serve as the brokerage's Principal Associate Broker once properly licensed and the company structure is finalized. Help establish brokerage policies, procedures, compliance standards, and transaction-review processes. Recruit, onboard, coach, and supervise the first 1-2 agents. Build a high-accountability prospecting and listing culture focused on seller opportunities. Help create scripts, follow-up systems, lead-management processes, and agent activity standards. Review contracts and oversee licensed brokerage activity in accordance with Michigan requirements. Drive consistent agent activity, follow-up, appointments, listings, and closings. Work directly with ownership on strategy, recruiting, compensation plans, and growth. Help identify and implement the technology stack needed to operate efficiently. Scale the agent team only after the initial model is working and measurable. Who We're Looking For Highly ambitious, competitive, entrepreneurial, and motivated by growth. A builder mentality — someone energized by creating systems and growing a team from zero. High personal output, strong follow-through, and a bias toward action. Comfortable being accountable for results rather than simply occupying a management position. Interested in recruiting, coaching, prospecting, listings, and leadership. Strong communicator who can set expectations and hold agents accountable. Comfortable working closely with an ownership group that moves quickly and expects execution. Motivated by a combination of current compensation and long-term performance upside. Someone who wants their responsibilities and earning potential to grow substantially as the company grows.
Licensing / Experience
Must currently hold an active Michigan real estate license.
Preferred:
current Michigan Associate Broker license.
Also considered:
an experienced Michigan salesperson who is eligible and willing to obtain an Associate Broker license and take on the required licensed leadership responsibilities. Brokerage, listing, sales, recruiting, team-lead, or management experience is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of residential purchase agreements, listing agreements, negotiation, transaction management, and agent supervision. Ability and willingness to satisfy all applicable Michigan licensing and supervisory requirements for the role. This Role Is Probably Not a Fit If… You are looking for a passive broker-of-record arrangement. You want an established agent roster, office, or lead flow handed to you on day one. You prefer a low-intensity management role focused mainly on administration. You do not want responsibility for recruiting, coaching, supervision, or accountability. You are uncomfortable building systems, prospecting culture, and processes from scratch. You want to remain solely an individual-producing agent with no interest in leadership. Compensation & Upside Compensation will be structured around the level of experience, licensing status, and involvement of the selected candidate. The goal is to create a package that rewards both immediate execution and long-term brokerage growth. Base compensation or guaranteed draw, depending on structure. Performance incentives tied to brokerage production and growth. Brokerage overrides / participation in company-side revenue. Additional incentives tied to recruiting, agent productivity, or profitability. Potential for profit-sharing or a larger long-term leadership/economic role after performance milestones are proven. Licensing education and related costs may be supported for an otherwise qualified candidate who is eligible and willing to obtain the required broker-level license.
Schedule / Work
Style Full-time or substantial committed involvement required. Hybrid structure is possible, but this is not intended to be a passive or fully hands-off position. Regular presence in the Rockford / Grand Rapids market will be important for recruiting, training, culture, and growth. Autonomy is high; accountability for measurable results is equally high. Why This Opportunity Is Different This is an opportunity to be involved at the beginning rather than joining a brokerage after the major decisions have already been made. The right person will have a direct voice in systems, recruiting, agent standards, compensation, culture, and the growth plan. We are not trying to build the largest brokerage overnight. We want to build a profitable, disciplined, listing-focused company with strong agents, clear standards, and a model that can be scaled intelligently. How to Apply Please submit your resume and a short note explaining why you are interested in building a brokerage rather than simply joining an established one. Include your current Michigan license type, years in real estate, approximate recent production, and any experience recruiting, leading, training, or building systems.
