Job Description
We are looking for a Leasing Agent to support an affordable housing portfolio in Newark, New Jersey. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who combines strong resident-facing service skills with hands-on leasing experience and comfort using property management technology. The person in this role will guide prospective residents through the rental process, respond to inquiries promptly, and help maintain an organized, efficient leasing operation.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with prospective and current residents by phone, email, and in person to provide timely, attentive support throughout the leasing process.
- Manage apartment inquiries, schedule property tours, and explain community features, lease terms, and eligibility guidelines for affordable housing programs.
- Process rental applications accurately, collect required documentation, and maintain complete records in property management systems such as Yardi or RentCafe.
- Support day-to-day leasing activity by tracking follow-ups, updating applicant status, and coordinating next steps with internal teams.
- Resolve customer questions related to applications, account access, or general connectivity and online portal issues with a service-focused approach.
- Use multiple browser-based platforms and communication tools to handle resident interactions, documentation, and leasing workflows efficiently.
- Maintain consistent email correspondence and call handling standards to ensure a positive experience for applicants and residents.
- Assist with operational updates in leasing systems or processes when needed, ensuring information remains accurate and accessible.
- Prior experience in leasing, preferably within affordable housing or income-restricted residential communities.
- Proficiency with property management or leasing platforms, including Yardi, RentCafe, or similar systems.
- Strong customer service background with the ability to manage high-volume calls and resident inquiries effectively.
- Comfortable working across multiple browser windows, web-based tools, and digital communication platforms.
- Clear written communication skills for thorough email correspondence and applicant follow-up.
- Ability to stay organized, manage competing priorities, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience identifying and addressing basic user access or connectivity-related issues is preferred.
