Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Machine Shop Lead and Set Up Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee machine shop operations, lead setup and calibration of CNC and manual machining equipment, and ensure precision in all manufacturing processes. Your expertise will drive efficiency, uphold quality standards, and foster continuous improvement within our machining environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical operations while honing your skills in advanced manufacturing techniques. Responsibilities Lead the setup, calibration, and operation of CNC milling machines, lathes, grinders, and manual machining tools to produce high-precision components. Program CNC machines utilizing G-code, M-code, CAM software, and Mazatrol controls to optimize machining processes. Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings accurately to ensure parts meet specifications. Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments for quality control. Troubleshoot machine issues promptly, perform routine maintenance, and implement preventative measures to minimize downtime. Supervise and mentor team members in machining techniques, safety protocols, and best practices aligned with lean manufacturing principles. Maintain detailed documentation of setups, inspections, and process adjustments to support continuous improvement initiatives. Skills Proficiency with CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code; experience with CNC milling machines and CNC lathe operations. Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAD for designing parts and creating machining programs. Expertise in blueprint reading, mechanical blueprint interpretation, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and measurement techniques for quality assurance. Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM), grinding processes, tooling selection, and manual machining methods. Ability to operate machining tools safely using hand tools, power tools, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments. Mechanical knowledge including understanding of machine setup procedures, tooling management, M-code programming for CNC machines, and troubleshooting equipment issues. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to improve workflow efficiency while maintaining high-quality standards. Basic math skills necessary for calculations related to measurements, tolerances, and process adjustments.
