Responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience and smooth store operations. The Assistant Store Operations Manager must communicate and work effectively with the Store Operations Manager, General Manager, Administration Managers, Department Managers, the staff, owner and non-owner customers and the community. The Assistant Store Operations Manager supports Department Managers and the Store Operations Manager in the supervision of BriarPatch staff.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations - Assist the Store Operations Manager Implement and enforce policies and procedures required to achieve co-op objectives in accordance with BriarPatch Board approved Ends Policies; Maintain professional standards in all aspects of the operation of the store; Review achievement of overall performance and service goals of the store; Ensure store and staff compliance with all regulatory requirements including health department, OSHA and labor laws; Maintain adequate floor coverage; prioritize work in the store and reassign employees' tasks as needed; Provide exemplary internal and external customer service; Provide on the floor assistance as needed; have a working knowledge of cash register use and current procedures; Provide leadership in emergency/accident situations, following store procedures and completing necessary forms; Ensure all store inventory is ordered, managed and stocked; Maintain all physical assets and research needed additions; Ensure a high level of cleanliness and a professional appearance of the interior and exterior of the store; Attend managerial meetings including Operations Team, Management Team and others as scheduled; Act in accordance with established procedures for handling disorderly customers, shoplifting, robbery and medical emergencies; Maintain a safe work environment (e.g. Assist with customer spills, report hazards and/or equipment failures, etc.) Process all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner; Maintain integrity of all necessary files; Delegate and/or share responsibilities and duties wherever appropriate in order to maximize efficiency Review financial reports of performance vs. budget (e.g. labor hours, wages, sales, margin, efficiency, etc.) and investigate variances; Observe status of store performance and report discrepancies, performance problems and other relevant conditions to Store Operations Manager. Work will include nights and weekends. Personnel - Follow all personnel policies; Model best practices; lead by positive, professional, and co-operative example; Direct and supervise staff. Oversee staffing coverage including shift co-ordination and daily floor management for efficient operational flow; Address staff performance issues as outlined in the BriarPatch Employee Handbook; Coach, motivate, and mentor staff to achieve goals; Facilitate team building and encourage an ongoing cooperative approach; Identify and suggest ways to improve and maintain staff morale; Lead staff trainings as assigned; Lead Operations team meetings as assigned and follow through on action items. Owner and Community Relations - Model BriarPatch Customer Service standards to all internal and external customers; Maintain pleasant, supportive relationships with co-workers, customers and vendors Provide on the floor assistance when necessary in a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful manner; Anticipate, respond promptly and assist customers; Direct and sustain the business as a cooperative; Obtain and respond to input from customers and owners about co-op issues, products and services; Sustain healthy owner relations; Maintain a positive image in the local and cooperative communities. Responsibilities toSafety:
Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times; Follow all company and safety policies and procedures; Participate in the safety program; Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others; Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns during shift and coordinate repair as needed, using established procedures; Report potentially harmful equipment or situations without delay using established procedures; Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor; Maintain security of store during shift, ensure that the store is opened and closed following secure procedures.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with BriarPatch Co-op's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED certificate required. Four year degree or equivalence experience. Must have experience developing systems and procedures with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have the ability to implement the co-op philosophy and manage and motivate a large team. Must have excellent communication skills.Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine and Board-level reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or electronic form.Computer Skills:
