Job Description Overview The Paint Shop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation and leadership of the paint shop, including production, quality, safety, scheduling, employee supervision, and workflow. This is a hands-on management position requiring the manager to actively work alongside employees, assist with painting and preparation processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and to customer specifications. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, experience with industrial painting and metal finishing, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Promote excellence throughout the plant. Highly involved in the day-to-day activities and decisions of the team. Ability to calculate and order appropriate paint and supplies per job specifications. Ability to prepare and finish high quality parts timely. Pollution Control compliance. Ensure regulatory compliance by fostering a culture dedicated to health and safety in the workplace. Maintenance of quality control/assurance plan. Manufacturing Scheduling Administration. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; additional manufacturing or management education preferred. 3-5 years of experience in industrial painting, powder coating, metal finishing, or a related manufacturing environment. Previous supervisory or management experience required. Strong knowledge of industrial painting and finishing processes. Experience with paint booths, spray equipment, curing ovens, masking, surface preparation, and coating applications. Understanding of paint specifications, dry film thickness, surface preparation requirements, and quality standards. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and understand work orders, drawings, specifications, and production documentation. Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and manage changing production requirements. Basic computer skills and ability to learn production and inventory systems. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and hazardous material handling. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, or other process-improvement methods. Experience managing production metrics and labor efficiency. Familiarity with ERP/MRP or manufacturing management software.
