Job Description
The Shop Floor Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of production activities within their assigned area. This position maintains a strong daily presence on the shop floor and is accountable for ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with production schedules and quality requirements. The Shop Floor Supervisor serves as the primary point of leadership for employees within the assigned production area and works closely with the Production Manager and support departments to identify and resolve issues that could impact safety, quality, productivity, or delivery. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and allocate labor and other resources to support daily and weekly production schedules.
- Maintain an active presence on the shop floor, providing employees with direction, support, and clear daily priorities.
- Monitor production progress throughout the day and proactively identify and escalate issues that could impact schedule, quality, or delivery.
- Ensure employees follow established safety policies, procedures, work instructions, and company standards.
- Manage employee attendance and address performance, conduct, and accountability issues in coordination with the Production Manager and Human Resources as appropriate.
- Ensure employees receive the necessary safety, operational, and job-specific training to perform their assigned work.
- Supervise and support both full-time and temporary employees while promoting a productive, professional, and safety-conscious work environment.
- Provide regular updates to the Production Manager regarding production status, staffing, constraints, safety concerns, and other operational issues.
- Coordinate with Planning, Materials, Engineering, Quality, and Health & Safety to resolve issues and maintain production flow.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, organization, and continuous improvement throughout the assigned production area. Minimum Required Competencies
- Previous experience in manufacturing, production, or industrial environment is required.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively direct, coach, and motivate employees.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple production requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand production schedules, work instructions, drawings, and other applicable manufacturing documentation.
- Strong attention to detail with a results-oriented approach.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and communicate production needs and constraints.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift 30-50 pounds as needed.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills may be considered.
