Build a Career in B2B Sales CTS Companies has been helping Michigan businesses with technology for more than 40 years. We are looking for a Business Development Representative (BDR) to create new sales opportunities for CTS by starting conversations with prospective businesses and scheduling qualified first-time appointments for our Outside Sales team. This is a true outbound sales role. Most of your time will be spent calling, emailing, following up with, and speaking to prospective customers. CTS provides the prospect lists, tools, training, coaching, and support. You do not need to build your own lead lists, and you do not need to be an IT expert. We can teach technology. We are looking for someone who can communicate well, stay organized, handle rejection, accept coaching, and consistently do the work required to succeed. What You'll Do
- Conduct consistent outbound prospecting by phone, email, and other approved channels.
- Start conversations with business owners, executives, and other decision-makers.
- Ask questions to understand a prospect's current situation, challenges, and potential needs.
- Qualify prospective customers and schedule appropriate first-time appointments for CTS Outside Sales Representatives.
- Follow up persistently and professionally with prospects who are not ready to meet immediately.
- Maintain accurate prospect, activity, and follow-up information in our CRM.
- Work toward clearly defined goals based on outbound activity and successfully held first-time appointments.
- Participate in call coaching, sales training, role-playing, and weekly development sessions.
- Learn CTS technology services, target markets, customers, and sales process.
- Work closely with sales leadership and Outside Sales Representatives to improve messaging and prospecting results.
- Participate occasionally in networking, marketing, or other business-development activities. You will not be responsible for closing the sale or managing existing customer accounts. Your job is to create qualified opportunities and get the right prospective customers in front of our sales team. Who Tends to Succeed in This Role
- Is comfortable picking up the phone and starting conversations with people they have never met.
- Can hear "no" repeatedly without allowing it to affect the next conversation.
- Is personable and professional without sounding scripted.
- Is competitive and likes working toward measurable goals.
- Is organized and can manage a large number of prospects and follow-ups without letting opportunities fall through the cracks.
- Takes ownership of results and can work consistently without constant supervision.
- Is coachable and willing to practice, receive feedback, and change their approach.
- Is curious and asks good questions rather than simply delivering a sales pitch.
- Communicates clearly and confidently with business professionals.
- Wants to become better at sales and business development over time. Experience Preferred
- Previous inside sales, business development, appointment-setting, or outbound prospecting experience.
- Experience selling to businesses rather than consumers.
- Experience in information technology, managed services, cybersecurity, telecommunications, SaaS, or another technology-related field.
- Experience working with CRM and sales-prospecting tools. Not required
- A technology background.
- A specific college degree.
- IT certifications. Strong candidates from other industries will be considered if they demonstrate the communication skills, organization, resilience, and work ethic necessary for outbound sales. Training & Development We do not expect you to walk in already knowing how to sell CTS services. Training and coaching are ongoing parts of this position and include:
- Sales and prospecting coaching.
- Call scripting, messaging, and objection handling.
- Call review, role-playing, and feedback.
- Product and service education.
- CRM and sales-process training.
- Weekly one-on-one and team coaching.
- Direct access to experienced salespeople and CTS leadership.
Where Can This Role Lead? We want to hire someone who can build a career at CTS, but that career does not have to follow a predetermined path. For someone interested in becoming an Outside Sales Representative, this position can provide the experience and training needed to move in that direction. We would generally expect someone to spend at least one year developing in the BDR role before considering that transition. For others, a different long-term path within sales, business development, or CTS may make more sense. Advancement is based on performance, demonstrated skills, available opportunities, and what you want your career to become. Work Environment This position can be based from our Bloomfield Hills or Ann Arbor office. Because learning happens much faster when you can hear calls, receive immediate feedback, ask questions, and work directly with the sales team, new employees should expect to work in the office five days per week during the initial training period.
- After the initial training period, the normal schedule is expected to transition to approximately four days per week in the office.
- Employees who demonstrate consistent performance, accountability, communication, and reliability may become eligible for additional hybrid flexibility, potentially reducing their regular in-office schedule to two or three days per week.
- Hybrid flexibility is earned through demonstrated performance and trust rather than guaranteed on a specific date. Compensation & Benefits CTS offers a combination of dependable base compensation and performance-based earning opportunities.
- Starting pay: $16-$20 per hour, based on experience.
- Additional performance bonuses for qualified first-time appointments that are successfully held.
- Health insurance.
- Paid Time Off (PTO).
- Paid holidays.
- 401(k) with company matching.
- Eligible business-expense reimbursement.
- Ongoing sales coaching and professional development.
- Opportunities for increased responsibility and career advancement.
This is a performance-driven sales position. Your goals will be clear, your results will be measurable, and successful performance will provide opportunities to increase both your compensation and your responsibilities over time. Why CTS? There are plenty of jobs where someone can make outbound calls. We want this to be a place where someone can learn how to sell. At CTS, you will have access to experienced sales professionals and company leadership, sell a wide variety of technology services to real businesses, receive ongoing coaching, and learn how business owners and executives make technology decisions. You will also be joining an established company with more than four decades of history. If you are looking for an easy sales job that avoids rejection or requires very little outbound activity, this probably is not the right position. If you are persistent, organized, comfortable talking to new people, willing to be coached, and interested in becoming genuinely good at B2B sales, we would like to talk to you.
