Job Description

Bentham-Moxon Trust - Trustee Vacancy - External to RBGK

The Bentham-Moxon Trust is a charity that through the awarding of small grants, supports plant and fungal collection, research and education that further the work of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew). We manage investments of over £7m, the income generated is used to award grants.

We provide small grants to support the work of RBG Kew, principally to enable plant collection and field research expeditions; training and working opportunities for overseas botanists and mycologists; and presenting of globally important research at worldwide conferences. To assist the RBG Kew, we support the publication of the Flora Zambesiaca and fund the B.A. Krukoff Curator of African Botany and the B.A. Krukoff Fellowship in Systematics to further research into the systematics of African plants.

The Board of Trustees is comprised of six Trustees, three appointed from staff of the RBG Kew and three who are recruited externally.

The Trust has a vacancy for a Trustee and is looking to recruit someone with a strong background in botanical science together with experience of reviewing grant funding and/or project applications. The successful candidate will be a member of the Grant Evaluation Sub-committee and experience of evaluating grant or project applications is essential. This Trustee needs to be external to RBG Kew, i.e. not a current member of staff.

The Trust's meetings and Symposium are held at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew with hybrid facility available and the likely time commitment is anticipated to be approximately 5-10 days per year.
