General Statement of Duties The Department of Community Revitalization coordinates the County's housing initiatives, revitalization efforts, and community development programs and seeks to hire a student for a paid internship. Semester of Internship :

This is for fall 2026, and spring 2027, with the ability to extend further if funding is available. The internship will start early October depending on the availability of the student.

Start Date:

On or around October 5, 2026.

End Date:

Approximately May 15, 2027. Internship could continue through summer 2027 depending on departmental needs, funding availability, student performance and availability of selected student.

Work Hours:

8:00 am - 4:30 pm are core hours. Internship hours may vary. Interns could be scheduled to work up to 29 hours per week based on the assignment and the intern's availability. All internships are limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week. Assignments may involve small amounts of working outdoors in adverse conditions and temperatures. Generally, anticipate 20 - 25 hours per week during the academic year and 25-29 hours per week in summer.

Internship Status:

Paid, at the hourly rate of $17.00 for graduate students and $16.00 for undergraduate level students.

Internship Experience:

Internships provide experiential exposure to a field of interest and an opportunity to develop practical skills and industry knowledge. The Intern will receive training related to assigned responsibilities and gain experience in various aspects of the Department of Community Revitalization's operations. The position may involve extensive public contact and opportunities to work both independently and as part of a team. The Intern will gain experience working in a professional environment and have opportunities to interact with department leaders and other professionals in the field. This internship position will be assigned to the Department of Community Revitalization. The Intern will assist with community development, economic development, housing, and grant program activities, including:

• Assisting with preparation of the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) for submission to HUD, including compiling, analyzing, and summarizing data; preparing maps and graphics; and coordinating information from staff and other contributors.
• Assisting with the solicitation and review of applications for federal CDBG and HOME funds.
• Supporting the administration of locally and federally funded business assistance programs, particularly in corridors targeted for revitalization and investment.
• Conducting business site visits to discuss grant programs, assess needs, and document project conditions.
• Reviewing site plans and schematic architectural drawings.
• Participating in public hearings, community workshops, community meetings, and outreach activities.
• Reviewing and processing grant applications and conducting research to support funding decisions.
• Maintaining program records, business documentation, databases, photographs, and related research.
• Preparing correspondence, reports, presentations, informational materials, maps, and graphics.
• Reviewing and updating procedures and program documents related to grant administration.
• Conducting and documenting land use, housing, and other field surveys to support program planning and program modifications.
• Tracking and analyzing program accomplishments and preparing summary reports.
• Using GIS and other tools to analyze, map, and present demographic, housing, economic, and land use data.
• Collaborating with staff and other interns on assigned projects and programs.
• Assisting with field work and site visits related to housing rehabilitation and repair programs.
• Performing other related duties assigned. T h e position may require occasional visits to homes and businesses receiving grant assistance. These activities may involve entering buildings and accessing surrounding areas, sometimes under mildly adverse conditions. • Knowledge of planning and economic development principles and the ability to interpret plans, regulatory requirements, ordinances, and statutes.
• Strong research, mathematical, analytical, and data evaluation skills, including the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and summarize information.
• Experience working with demographic, housing, economic, and land use data.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to manipulate and present data.
• Experience with Arc

GIS, GIS

mapping, and data analysis is preferred.

• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse County employees and citizens.
• Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to represent Henrico County professionally when interacting with colleagues, citizens, businesses, and other stakeholders.

Internships are intended to provide the intern with basic experiential exposure to a field of interest. The intern will receive training relevant to the assigned responsibilities and finish the internship having gained basic experience in various aspects of the operations of the assigned department as well as basic skills and industry knowledge. The intern will also learn how to work in a professional environment and have opportunities to network with department leaders and other professionals in the internship field. Minimum Requirements Education:

Pursuing a graduate (master's) or undergraduate degree in a field relevant to internship; GPA of 2.50 or better;

Experience:

Completion of college-level program in relevant degree program; relevant job, volunteer or previous internship experience;

Or:

Any equivalent combination education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the internship.
