team in Newington, Connecticut. This position is designed for a PhD-trained chemist with strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and a demonstrated interest in developing efficient, scalable, robust, and reproducible chemical processes. The Scientist will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and scaling synthetic routes, contributing to process development strategies, and providing technical guidance to junior researchers. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the process chemistry group to advance projects from route design and laboratory development through process optimization and scale-up. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive literature and patent reviews to support synthetic route selection, risk assessment, experimental planning, and project objectives. Design, develop, optimize, and execute scalable multi-step synthetic routes, typically at the 10-100 g scale or larger, with a strong focus on safety, robustness, reproducibility, and efficiency. Optimize reaction parameters, including solvent, temperature, stoichiometry, reagent addition, reaction time, concentration, and workup conditions, to improve yield, selectivity, throughput, and process reliability. Evaluate and implement process improvements, including the use of alternative reagents, catalysts, solvents, and reaction conditions, to enhance scalability, efficiency, consistency, and cost-effectiveness. Develop and apply process-appropriate purification and isolation techniques, including crystallization, phase separation, filtration, extraction, and chromatography, as appropriate. Perform and interpret analytical characterization using techniques such as NMR, MS, HPLC, GC, KF, and related analytical methods to confirm structure, purity, and batch-to-batch consistency. Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant laboratory notebooks, experimental records, technical reports, and other project documentation, ensuring data integrity and traceability. Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to junior researchers, including assistance with experimental design, laboratory execution, troubleshooting, and data interpretation. Coordinate research activities within small project teams to support project timelines, priorities, deliverables, and quality expectations. Contribute scientific expertise and practical recommendations to process development strategy, route selection, project planning, and technical decision-making. Identify potential process risks and proactively develop solutions to address challenges related to scalability, safety, reproducibility, purification, and product quality. Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laboratory safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Stay current with advances in synthetic and process chemistry, scalable reaction methodologies, purification technologies, and green chemistry principles, and incorporate relevant best practices into ongoing research. Qualifications PhD in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field required. Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of organic reaction mechanisms, synthetic strategy, retrosynthetic analysis, and process route development. Demonstrated hands-on experience with multi-step organic synthesis, reaction optimization, and laboratory-scale process development. Experience developing or optimizing synthetic processes at gram scale or larger is strongly preferred. Familiarity with process-relevant purification and isolation strategies, including crystallization, extraction, phase separation, filtration, and chromatography. Proven ability to analyze and interpret data from NMR, MS, HPLC, GC, KF, and other relevant analytical techniques. Experience supporting, training, or mentoring junior scientists or researchers in an academic or industrial laboratory setting. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to identify root causes and develop practical experimental solutions. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and contribute effectively to a collaborative, team-oriented R D environment. Strong scientific judgment, attention to experimental detail, and commitment to data quality, laboratory safety, and reproducibility. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document experimental procedures, results, conclusions, and recommendations. Additional Requirements Submission of a three-page research summary along with a resume or curriculum vitae. Ability to lift and transport laboratory materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
