Job Summary We are seeking a temporary Environmental Specialist to support dock permit review for a County department. This position includes both office and field work and is responsible for reviewing dock permit applications, completing field visits, documenting findings, and helping ensure proposed dock projects meet County standards and environmental requirements. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree, strong attention to detail, and the ability to review permit information, identify potential environmental impacts, communicate with applicants, and document work accurately in Accela.

Location:
Clearwater, FL Duties Review dock permit applications to ensure they meet County standards and requirements. Review permit information related to structural, environmental, Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), and other applicable requirements. Perform field visits to evaluate proposed dock locations. Identify potential environmental impacts involving coral, seagrass, mangroves, and other environmental concerns. Ensure proposed dock work does not negatively impact protected or sensitive environmental areas. Communicate with permit applicants regarding questions, corrections, missing information, or issues with applications. Help applicants understand what is needed to move the permit toward approval. Document findings clearly and accurately. Upload permit information, notes, and documentation into Accela. Take field notes and update files so the rest of the team has accurate information. Coordinate with internal staff as needed throughout the review process. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of six months of related experience preferred. Experience or coursework in environmental science, biology, marine science, natural resources, environmental permitting, planning, construction permitting, or related field preferred. Ability to review documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements. Ability to perform field visits and document site observations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with permit applicants and internal staff. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to enter and upload accurate information into computer systems. Experience with Accela or other permitting software preferred. Must be able to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Must be able to complete an approximately 6-week assignment, with possible extension. Must be able to pass all required background screening, drug screening, and onboarding requirements. Work Environment Position includes both office work and field visits. Field work may include outdoor conditions, walking sites, and observing environmental areas near proposed dock locations. Must be comfortable working independently and documenting findings accurately.
