This job oversees the planning, developing, coordination and evaluation of infection control activities which include surveillance, education, and consultation. Manages members of the infection control team in developing and revising the elements of the Infection Control Plan. Serves as a resource to all health care workers regarding infection control issues. Presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions; monitors employee compliance with laws, regulations and standards and use of infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for staff; leads and supports departments and personnel; implements programs to protect healthcare workers, visitors, and others in the healthcare environment; serves as subject matter expert to others on sterile processing, high level disinfection, environmental services; sets and recommends policies and procedures to prevent adverse events; provides process consultation in building a system-wide infection prevention culture. • Bachelor's degree in nursing, epidemiology, statistics or public health, OR Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice. Preferred
• Master's degree in nursing or healthcare managerial experience. Work Experience Required
• 5 years of related infection control experience with 2 years of supervisory/management experience. Preferred
• 7 years of nursing or healthcare managerial experience. Experience managing a hospital-based, infection control program with inpatient and ambulatory settings. Certifications Required
• Certification of Infection Control (CIC) at hire or obtained with 2 years of hire.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Strong conflict resolution and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of infectious disease process, patient care practices, aseptic technique and other principles of infection transmission and prevention. Organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Ability to manage active clinical process elements bringing the best, current science regarding infection prevention to the caregivers and clinicians in all patient care settings. Job Duties Provides ongoing infection control education to all health care workers; Monitors and provides feedback on infection prevention & control items through real-time observation. Interprets and implements regulatory agencies laws, regulations, and standards. Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements and evidence-based guidelines (EBGs) that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, EBGs and standards. Evaluates competency of other healthcare workers in specific tasks and maintains accurate documentation. Utilizes epidemiology and surveillance principles to identify strategies to prevent communicable disease transmission and/or healthcare associated infections and reviews the literature for most up to date recommendations. Leads and participates in performance improvement activities and pursues professional growth and participates in professional activities. Collaborates with medical staff, physician practice leaders and appropriate public health authorities and functions as a liaison and subject matter expert to others including employee health, sterile processing, environmental services, education, etc. Compiles, interprets, and reports surveillance data to the appropriate committees, departments, and individuals as outlined in the Infection Control Plan and communicates this information through the appropriate channels. Performs infection control risk assessments annually and as needed, performs annual evaluation of goals and Infection Control Plan, assists in planning of facility physical design, and performs construction risk assessments as needed. Assists in the selection and use of products and equipment related to infection prevention, cleaning, and disinfection. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
