Job Description

General Information Saint Paul Public Schools is accepting applications for Long Term Substitute Counselors for the 2026-2027 school year. A Minnesota K-12 School Counseling License is required before you can start . We have three long term sub vacancies: Full year 20 weeks starting in November 12 weeks starting in
January Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
A valid teaching license in School Counseling K-12 issued by the Minnesota Department of Education. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities not limited to: Ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds in our urban environment. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with school staff. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of representatives in public and private organizations who partner with schools to support student academic, personal/social and career needs. Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills. Technology skills that support student success and data driven programming. Knowledge of the reporting procedures relative to the maltreatment of minors Knowledge of the roles & services offered by support agencies Responsibilities Licensed School Counselors are uniquely qualified to address all students¿ academic, career and social/emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success. SPPS School Counselors work to align their programs with the American School Counselor Association National Model.
Direct Student Services:
Core Counseling Curriculum consistent classroom lessons to proactively teach skills in the following domains: academic career social emotional bully prevention data will be collected and shared quarterly Small Group Counseling examples of topics for group counseling: academic skills career exploration and readiness social emotional skills mental health and wellness family change Individual Counseling academic planning - appraisal and advisement social emotional support mental health and wellness responsive services crisis support
Indirect Student Services:
referrals consultation collaboration Program Planning / System Support promoting readiness activities for college, career & life providing leadership for mental health and wellness, academic supports, and career and college planning evaluating school data to expose and address gaps and inequities managing student PLP planning technology platforms assisting in creating multi-tiered systems of support for ALL students empowering and supporting families and staff defining, managing, and assessing activities providing professional development to staff, including mental health, suicide prevention, college & career readiness How to Apply To be considered further, please apply for this position and attach a resume and cover letter to your online application. Pay range for this position is: $29,292 - $111,399 Maximum hiring step = step twenty (20) The full salary schedule is listed in the Teachers contract. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside of the United States.
