Under the supervision of the Social Services Director, the Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Job Coach is responsible for providing individualized employment support and job coaching services to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native individuals with disabilities. The Job Coach will assist clients in preparing for, obtaining, maintaining, and advancing in employment or self-employment consistent with their Individualized Plan for Employment. This position may be based in Anchorage, Homer, Seward, Port Graham, Nanwalek, Tatitlek, or Chenega. The Job Coach will work collaboratively with the Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator and other Community & Family Services Division staff but will report directly to the Social Services Director.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide direct services to eligible clients with disabilities, including employment preparation, individualized job coaching, workplace support, and employment retention services. Assist clients in completing the employment activities and services identified in their Individualized Plan for Employment. Help clients identify employment interests, strengths, abilities, skills, support needs, and barriers to employment. Assist clients with career exploration, job searches, employment applications, résumés, cover letters, interview preparation, and workplace readiness. Provide individualized coaching to assist clients in learning job duties, meeting employer expectations, developing effective workplace habits, and maintaining employment. Provide follow-up support to clients and employers after employment begins. Assist clients in identifying and requesting reasonable workplace accommodations when appropriate. Support the development of natural workplace supports and positive working relationships between clients, supervisors, and coworkers. Consult with employers and other stakeholders to increase access to competitive integrated employment, supported employment, work experiences, and other vocational opportunities. Develop and maintain positive relationships with employers, Tribal organizations, educational institutions, workforce programs, service providers, and community partners. Assist clients pursuing self-employment with approved activities identified in their Individualized Plan for Employment, including business research, basic business planning, business licensing, identifying resources, and developing work routines. Assist clients in accessing approved resources needed to prepare for or maintain employment, including clothing, tools, training, transportation, assistive technology, and other vocational supports. Provide ongoing support, planning, and adjustment to employment-related services based on client progress and changing needs. Travel to assigned communities and villages to meet with clients, prospective clients, local leadership, employers, and community partners. Assist with community outreach, workshops, employment-related classes, career exploration activities, résumé development, and presentations about the Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Program. Maintain consistent communication with clients based on their employment goals, service needs, and preferred methods of communication. Document client contacts, services, progress, employment outcomes, and other case management activities accurately and within required timeframes. Maintain a consistent work schedule based on the needs of clients, employers, communities, and the program. Ensure culturally responsive and person-centered services are available to people with disabilities. Participate as a member of Chugachmiut's Community & Family Services Division team. Collaborate with the Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator regarding client services, Individualized Plans for Employment, program activities, outreach, and employment outcomes. Participate in required program training, staff meetings, case consultation, mandatory meetings, and site visits. Maintain client confidentiality and comply with applicable Tribal, organizational, state, and federal requirements. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Education Requirements:
Associate degree in human services, rehabilitation, social services, psychology, education, business, workforce development, or a closely related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. Relevant education and experience may be considered in place of the degree requirement. Experience working with people with disabilities, preferably in vocational rehabilitation, employment services, workforce development, supported employment, independent living, behavioral health, or a related field. Knowledge of or experience with job development, job coaching, employment preparation, workplace accommodations, or employment retention services. Knowledge of and ability to work productively in rural communities. Experience working with Alaska Native and American Indian individuals, Tribal organizations, or rural Alaska communities is preferred. Experience supporting self-employment or small-business development is preferred. Reliable and dependable, with the ability to demonstrate follow-through and consistency. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clients, coworkers, employers, and community partners. Ability to work in a rural setting and travel by light aircraft, boat, snowmobile, ATV, or other available transportation when required. Must maintain confidentiality
Hours of Work:
Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one hour for lunch. Some evenings, weekends, or adjusted hours may be required based on client needs, employer schedules, community activities, outreach events, and regional travel. Travel to remote locations by boat, snowmobile, ATV, commercial aircraft, or small plane is required, and the employee must be willing and able to travel. Travel may include overnight stays, changing weather conditions, limited transportation options, and work in remote communities.
