FOR THIS POSITION WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED ONLINE. BASIC POSITION INFORMATION
Under supervision of the High School Principal or designee, organize and manage the Career Center; plan, organize, develop and implement career educational units, events and publicity; assist students with education program planning and post high school planning; administer vocational and career interest tests and inform students of the results; perform clerical work related to the Career Center. This class performs responsible para-professional, guidance and clerical work in the Career Center. The incumbent exercises judgment in referring students to appropriate guidance and counseling staff. The College/Career Specialist exercises initiative in operating the Career Center, seeking out information for students and making contacts in the business community, colleges and universities. OPEN - anyone may apply. The District currently has one (1) vacancy for eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, twelve (12) months per school year. The eligibility list being established will be used to fill the current vacancy, for future vacancies, and for substitute positions that may occur within one year in this classification. The examination process consists of supplemental questions within the application, a written job-related examination, and a qualifications appraisal interview followed by a selection interview for the candidates that are in the top three (3) ranks. The posted salary is 100% for an eight (8) hour position. The current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week at 100% of the posted salary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintain and organize career center information and files. E Administer, score, and interpret interest and aptitude tests to groups and individual students. E Receive and respond to inquiries from parents, students and staff regarding testing, college, scholarship, other financial information and career information . E Assist counseling department with planning, developing and conducting a variety of workshops and classroom presentations for students such as college awareness, scholarships, applications and financial aid, career exploration. E Communicate with local community colleges and universities. E Conduct orientation sessions on Career Center services including preparing and presenting workshops on career awareness, exploration, preparation and job acquisition skills. E Meet individually and with groups of students to identify interests, skills, needs, goals, and career interests; assist students to develop action plans to support long-range college and career goals. E Plan, develop and implement appropriate activities and services within the Career Center such as college, career and military guest speakers, webinars, career days, job fairs; special events and field trips; maintain calendar of Career Center activities. E Identify and disseminate information regarding employment openings, student internships, job fairs and summer program opportunities; provide resume writing assistance to students; conduct mock interviews. E Participate with the East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupation Program (ESGVROP) by: attending meetings, providing ROP pathway support, communicating between ESGVROP and the high school, monitoring and reporting of attendance of all Career Technical Education (CTE) designated ROP classes to
ESGVROP. E
Arrange activities for students to include such activities as guest speakers, field trips, job shadow, internships for CTE Career Pathways academies. E Assist CTE career pathway teachers with various aspects of CTE grant requirements including: recruitment of students for CTE classes, monitoring of summer interns, marketing of pathway programs, data collection, reporting, and annual inventory of CTE equipment. E Utilize the database for student work permits and academic requirement for students to work; Assist and work with businesses with placement for student internships and volunteer opportunities. E Arrange visitations to business and industry for students seeking career information. E Maintain and update all college/career related information on all Social media and the following websites; counseling, career center, CTE academies; post and distribute pertinent information via bulletins, flyers, posters, brochures, memoranda, and emails. E Develop forms and office procedures for the Career Center, and order, review, catalog and inventory materials and maintain supplies for the Career Center. E Attend workshops, trainings and conferences to maintain current knowledge of career technical education developments, labor market trends and applicable employment laws. Operate a variety of office equipment including projectors, copiers, scanners and a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. E Perform necessary clerical duties and maintain bulletin boards and displays. May supervise and train student workers. Perform related duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO

Understand, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Compose correspondence independently. Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, counselors, educational institutions, community agencies and businesses to develop college and career opportunities. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and time lines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in counseling, education, guidance or related field and two years of experience working with counseling, career guidance or assessment testing functions. A Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, education or a closely related field is highly desirable.
