Summary:

The CalFresh Outreach Coordinator provides support and guidance to households in Riverside and San Bernardino by working directly with clients to answer questions and assist them in applying for CalFresh benefits over the phone and in-person. In addition, this role will develop strong relationships with a variety of external stakeholders and will be directly involved in community outreach efforts and the Fresh Start Pantry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain expert-level knowledge of CalFresh (SNAP) eligibility regulations, enrollment procedures, and current policy, legislation, and program trends affecting CalFresh and FARSB Conduct 5 CalFresh outreach events monthly across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, including distribution sites, food pantries, libraries, and partner nonprofit and public agencies Present to community members and partner groups to promote CalFresh and Food Bank services Provide eligibility education, pre-screening, and same-day online application assistance for appointments and walk-ins, with a goal of 45 applications submitted per month Follow up on all submitted applications until the case is resolved, including submission of verification documents Record and track outreach activities, pre-screens, applications, and outcomes in the online tracking system Conduct quarterly CalFresh training workshops if scheduled Maintain strong working relationships within the California Food Banks network, attending trainings and traveling as needed

Pantry and Program Support & General:

Work one assigned shift per week supporting pantry operations and ensuring smooth service delivery as needed Support the monthly resource fair and pantry cooking demonstrations in coordination with the team Conduct last-appointment check-ins with neighbors and provide referrals to wraparound services Contact participants regularly to collect testimonials and manage program sign-ups Flexibility to attend trainings or workshops outside normally scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bilingual in English and Spanish, written and verbal Experience with CalFresh (SNAP) eligibility, pre-screening, or application assistance Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly with clients, de-escalate difficult conversations in person and by phone, and respond to sensitive situations with patience and empathy Sound judgment in knowing when to escalate a client concern to a supervisor Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Consistently professional in behavior, etiquette, and client interactions Positive, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving Prior experience with food distribution programs or hunger relief work preferred, not required Physical Demands/Environmental Factors/Organization Requirements Ability to lift 25 pounds Driving throughout Riverside County Extended periods of sitting at desk on phone and computer Indoor office/warehouse environment with moderate noise at food bank location Valid driver's license and insurance High school diploma Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and standard office equipment The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed, rather than to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and skills required for the position.
