SUMMARY The Diocese of Orange is seeking a faith-filled and enthusiastic Youth Ministry Coordinator to support the mission of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church by fostering a welcoming environment where high school youth and young adults encounter Jesus Christ, grow in their Catholic faith, and become active members of the parish community. Working closely with the Pastor, parish staff, volunteers, parents, and ministry leaders, the Youth Ministry Coordinator plans, coordinates, and facilitates youth ministry programs, retreats, service opportunities, and faith formation experiences that inspire the youth and congregation in active participation in the life and mission of the Roman Catholic Church.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Because all St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work. The position of Youth Ministry Coordinator consists of some or all of the following duties: Coordinate and facilitate high school youth ministry programs for grades 9-12 Foster meaningful relationships with youth through guidance and mentorship in alignment with Catholic and pastoral values. Plan and coordinate youth nights, prayer sessions, retreats, service projects, mission opportunities, conferences, and social events. Recruit, train, schedule, and support adult volunteers and peer leaders. Encourage youth participation in Sunday Mass, parish life, and the sacramental life of the Church. Collaborate with parents and church leadership to support the faith formation and spiritual growth of the students. Assist in coordinating Confirmation-related youth ministry activities as assigned. Promote youth ministry events through parish communication channels and assist with creating flyers, announcements, and social media content as needed. Maintain ministry calendars, attendance records, registration information, and program documentation. Assist in preparing and monitoring the youth ministry budget and ministry resources. Coordinate youth ministry fundraising events. Collaborate with parish staff and ministry leaders to support faith formation efforts. Participate in ministry-relevant diocesan meetings, workshops, and formation development opportunities. Foster a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment that reflects the mission and values of the Catholic Church. Ensure compliance with Diocese of Orange Safe Environment policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Religious Education, Theology, Pastoral Ministry (or a related field preferred), or equivalent ministry experience. Solid understanding of Catholic principles and a commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Intermediate proficiency with social media, email communication platforms, and basic presentation software. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to foster trusting relationships with youth, parents, volunteers, and parish staff. Ability to meet multiple programs and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a ministry team. PREFFERED
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church. Church or non-profit Experience working with youth, young adults, education, parish ministry, or related fields. Experience leading Catholic youth ministry programs. Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and youth evangelization. Experience coordinating retreats, conferences, or service projects. Familiarity with Life Teen, Edge, Alpha Youth, or similar ministry models. Familiarity with parish management software and online registration platforms. Familiarity with using Canva (or similar design software), social media platforms, videography, photography, and digital editing skills.
WORK CONDITIONS
The position primarily involves work in an office setting within the parish premises, requiring frequent use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, credit card swipe, postage machine, and filing systems. Regular evening and weekend work is required to accommodate parish programs and events. Frequent interaction with clergy, parish staff, youth, parents, volunteers, and parishioners in a professional and faith-based environment. Must be available to adjust the schedule as needed to meet the needs of the parish community and ministry activities. Regular interaction with children, youth, adults, and volunteers in a professional and faith-based environment. Some local travel may be required for parish and diocesan meetings, retreats, conferences, service projects, or events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing administrative tasks. Frequent walking, standing, and moving around the parish campus to support programs and events. Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds, such as program materials, supplies, and event setups. Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment, creating materials, and managing paperwork. Visual and auditory ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and parishioners in person, by phone, or electronic communication. Must be able to set up and dismantle chairs, tables, displays, and other equipment needed for youth ministry programs and parish activities as required.
