Full Job Description Position Summary :

Under the direction of the Program Manager and Assistant Manager, the Youth Intervention Specialist (YIS) provides intensive school-based intervention for students in grades 6-12 who face significant barriers to educational success. Using relationship-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and restorative approaches, the YIS supports gang-impacted and justice-system involved youth, strengthens school engagement and safety, and connects students with school, family, community, and probation supports. Essential Functions/Responsibilities General Responsibilities Commit to Core Services listed in the current Scope of Work Commit to the agency's Mission, Vision, and Values. Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed with supervisor approval. Employee will need reliable transportation to work at assigned school site within Orange County and/or different School Districts and attend weekly meetings at PK headquarters in Santa Ana. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Intensive Student Intervention & Case Management Provide Tier II and Tier III intervention for students impacted by justice-system or probation involvement, gang involvement, chronic absenteeism, behavioral or social-emotional challenges, credit deficiency, or risk of suspension or expulsion. Develop individualized intervention plans that address barriers to student success, strengthen protective factors, and include goal setting and progress monitoring. Provide case management, mentoring, attendance and behavior intervention, graduation/credit-completion support, regular student check-ins, and community resource referrals. Provide gang intervention, violence prevention, safety planning, alternatives to suspension, crisis response, and conflict resolution based on student need. Support probation and juvenile justice re-entry, including successful reintegration following placement, detention, or incarceration. Intervention & Conflict Resolution Use restorative practices to repair harm, build accountability, strengthen relationships, and support positive behavioral change. Facilitate or support Restorative Conferences and Restorative Circles, including student-to-student and student-to-staff conflict resolution and alternatives to exclusionary discipline. Family, Community & Outreach Support Engage parents, guardians, and caregivers through phone calls, conferences, virtual meetings, home visits, and other approved outreach. Connect students and families to culturally responsive community resources and serve as a bridge between school, family, community, and probation. Documentation & Program Evaluation Maintain accurate and timely documentation of interventions, contacts, outreach, referrals, goals, and progress in required agency and school systems, including Apricot and on-site records. Campus Collaboration Collaborate with school administration, Student Support Services, COST teams, counselor, Orange County Probation, behavioral health providers, teachers, community partners, and families. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, intervention planning, service coordination, program evaluation activities, and assigned school site, district, and agency meetings. Training & Professional Development Complete Project Kinship's intensive onboarding and ongoing professional development in gang intervention, violence prevention, restorative practices, trauma-informed care, juvenile justice, crisis intervention, safety, motivational interviewing, de-escalation, cultural responsiveness, and school-based best practices. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience At least one year of Violence Prevention, youth intervention, case management, restorative practices, or related experience Preferred experience working with system impacted/gang involved youth Other Qualifications Ability to work both on a multidisciplinary team as well as independently Excellent communicator

Background Check Requirement:

The successful candidate for this position will be required to pass or clear two background checks. The first background check will be conducted by Project Kinship as per our policies and procedures. The second background check will be conducted by Funders through our contracted vendors, after the candidate is hired with Project Kinship, in accordance with our contractual agreements.
