An aftercare counselor is someone willing to work with preschool through middle school ages. The aftercare counselor assists children with homework assignments, they are engaged in indoor and outdoor activities, as well as being comfortable communicating with parents and guardians. An aftercare counselor is patient, enthusiastic, and works well with parents, staff, and others! Hours are from 2:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on school days. The first day of school for the 2025-26 school year is August 18. Responsibilities Employ a variety of techniques to engage and guide children Observe each child to help them improve their social and educational competencies and build self-esteem Encourage children to interact with each other and peacefully resolve occasional discord Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through carefully planned activities (identify shapes, numbers or colors, create crafts etc.) Organize snack and clean up Supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times Report successes and concerns to the Aftercare Director Collaborate with other educators and administration Maintain a clean and organized aftercare environment, consistent with health and safety standards Requirements Proven experience in child care Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to positively and effectively mediate between children Positive, patient, friendly and reliable High School Diploma or equivalent
