Job Overview Parkside Family Counseling is interested in hiring an Independent Contractor (MA, LMSW, LLMSW, LLPC, or LPC) who has a passion for working with youth in the school setting. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and adolescents through evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care. The practitioner will provide counseling for youth an occasionally families, to help them develop greater self-understanding, acceptance of responsibility, and improved decision making skills. The therapist will also be responsible for responding to crisis situations as appropriate. The practitioner will meet with Counselors, Teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental, social, and remedial needs of students. Meetings will be held several times each year with the principal and/or individual teams of teachers to communicate and discuss relevant issues. The therapist will also be one of several Parkside Therapists working in Lenawee County and a member of the Parkside professional group. The practitioner will be in the school 2 days per week totaling 14 hours per week. Responsibilities Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment-based therapy for children, and trauma-informed care techniques. Develop and implement personalized treatment plans aligned with clinical documentation standards, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical documentation requirements. Provide crisis management and crisis intervention services to students experiencing emotional or behavioral emergencies, ensuring safety and stability. Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, case managers, and other school staff to coordinate case management efforts and support student success. Facilitate social work interventions, child & family counseling, and behavioral therapy tailored to diverse cultural backgrounds and individual needs. Maintain accurate records using social work documentation tools while adhering to confidentiality standards related to medical records and medical terminology. Engage in ongoing professional development related to adolescent development. Support conflict management strategies and behavior management plans to promote positive student behavior within the school environment. Experience Proven experience working with children, adolescents, or youth in a school-based or clinical setting. Strong background in addiction counseling, behavioral health, mental health counseling, and trauma-informed care practices. Demonstrated ability to perform patient care activities including patient assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and case management. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and compliance with HIPAA regulations related to medical documentation. Experience utilizing social work documentation tools for clinical records while maintaining high standards for data collection and reporting. Skilled in crisis management techniques such as crisis intervention for students experiencing acute emotional distress or PTSD symptoms. Ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse environment while providing culturally sensitive counseling services.
