Position Overview We are seeking qualified behavioral health professionals to join our clinical team in one of two roles: Primary Counselor or Mental Health Counselor . Both positions provide clinical services to adults receiving inpatient detoxification and residential treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. While the roles work collaboratively as part of the same multidisciplinary treatment team, each has a distinct clinical focus:

Primary Counselor:

Focuses primarily on substance use disorder treatment, comprehensive treatment planning, relapse prevention, recovery support, case coordination, and discharge planning.

Mental Health Counselor:

Focuses primarily on mental health symptoms, emotional stabilization, trauma-informed interventions, coping skills, crisis intervention, and treatment of co-occurring mental health conditions. Candidates will be considered for the position that best aligns with their New Jersey licensure/credentials, education, clinical experience, and scope of practice . Primary Counselor Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, substance use evaluations, and mental health screenings using ASAM Criteria and DSM-5 guidelines. Develop individualized, recovery-oriented treatment plans with measurable goals and complete ongoing treatment reviews. Provide individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based approaches including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care. Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups focused on addiction education, coping skills, mental health awareness, and relapse prevention. Assist clients in developing relapse-prevention strategies, coping skills, and aftercare plans. Coordinate care with medical, psychiatric, nursing, case-management, and other members of the treatment team. Initiate and maintain discharge planning, including referrals to outpatient treatment, recovery housing, support groups, and community resources. Respond appropriately to crisis situations, behavioral concerns, relapse risks, and client safety issues. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EHR in accordance with

HIPAA, 42 CFR

Part 2, and agency standards. Participate in treatment-team meetings, clinical supervision, trainings, and utilization-review processes. Primary Counselor Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field preferred.

Active New Jersey credential/license required:

CADC, LCADC, LAC, LSW, LPC, or LCSW. Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing direct clinical services in substance use or co-occurring behavioral health settings required. Inpatient, detoxification, or residential treatment experience preferred. Mental Health Counselor Responsibilities Provide individual mental health counseling to clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use needs. Address symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, mood instability, emotional dysregulation, adjustment concerns, and other behavioral health conditions within scope of practice. Facilitate mental health and co-occurring disorder groups addressing coping skills, emotional regulation, trauma-informed recovery, communication, mood management, and relapse prevention. Provide family counseling or support sessions when clinically appropriate. Utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches including MI, CBT, DBT-informed interventions, psychoeducation, and recovery-oriented care. Assist with mental health assessments, screenings, risk evaluations, and diagnostic support as appropriate within scope of practice. Develop and contribute mental health-specific goals, interventions, and progress updates to individualized treatment plans. Collaborate with primary counselors, psychiatric providers, nursing, case management, and clinical leadership to support integrated care. Identify and appropriately respond to suicidal ideation, self-harm risk, emotional escalation, trauma responses, and other acute mental health concerns. Coordinate referrals to psychiatric providers, higher levels of care, or external mental health services when clinically indicated. Maintain timely and compliant clinical documentation in the EHR, ensuring mental health services are appropriately documented. Participate in treatment-team meetings, clinical supervision, trainings, and clinical consultation. Mental Health Counselor Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field required. Active New Jersey mental health license/credential required: LAC, LPC, LSW, LCSW, LAMFT, or LMFT. Minimum of one (1) year of mental health counseling or behavioral health experience preferred. Experience working with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders preferred. Detoxification, residential, inpatient, or substance use treatment experience preferred. Experience facilitating therapeutic groups and/or family counseling preferred. Qualifications Applicable to Both Roles CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Experience working within a multidisciplinary behavioral health treatment environment preferred. KIPU or other behavioral health EHR experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of substance use disorders, mental health conditions, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented treatment. Knowledge of evidence-based approaches including MI, CBT, DBT-informed interventions, psychoeducation, and relapse-prevention strategies. Strong clinical assessment, counseling, crisis-intervention, de-escalation, and documentation skills. Ability to engage and motivate clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Ability to collaborate effectively with counselors, psychiatric providers, nursing, case management, and clinical leadership. Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Proficiency with electronic health records and standard computer systems. Please note that clinical supervision toward LCSW licensure is not provided by the organization. LSWs pursuing their LCSW must secure their own qualified clinical supervisor.

Pay:

$65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
