Job Description

Child and Family Therapist We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and client-centered Mental Health Therapist (LPC, LMFT, LPC Associate, or LMFT Associate) to join our growing team. Our practice primarily serves Medicaid recipients, including children, adolescents, adults, and families who often face complex challenges beyond mental health concerns, such as food insecurity, housing instability, involvement with child welfare systems, and the effects of generational trauma. The ideal candidate is passionate about serving underserved populations, comfortable working with complex trauma presentations, and committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based care while maintaining compliance with Medicaid and CARF documentation standards. About Our Approach We believe healing happens through connection, safety, and engagement. Our practice utilizes a client-centered, trauma-informed approach and integrates a variety of therapeutic modalities tailored to each client's needs. In addition to traditional office-based therapy, we incorporate experiential and expressive interventions, including: Art therapy interventions Play therapy techniques Sand tray therapy Animal-assisted interventions Horticultural activities Fishing and outdoor therapeutic experiences Mindfulness and somatic-based approaches Family systems interventions Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills Solution-Focused Therapy Other evidence-based and culturally responsive modalities Essential Responsibilities Provide individual, family, and/or group therapy services. Conduct comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical evaluations. Develop individualized, client-centered treatment plans that address both behavioral health needs and functional impairments. Provide trauma-informed care to clients experiencing complex trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and multigenerational trauma. Collaborate with caregivers, schools, community providers, DSS/CPS personnel, medical providers, and other stakeholders as clinically appropriate. Maintain accurate, timely, and Medicaid-compliant clinical documentation. Ensure documentation meets all Medicaid, CARF, and agency requirements. Participate in clinical supervision (for associate-level clinicians) and multidisciplinary team meetings. Maintain professional boundaries, ethical standards, and confidentiality. Support clients in building resilience, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, and practical coping skills. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
Fully Licensed Clinicians Active LPC or LMFT license in South Carolinia. Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field. Associate-Level Clinicians Active LPC Associate or LMFT Associate registration in South Carolina. Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field. Ability to participate in required clinical supervision. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with Medicaid populations. Experience treating children, adolescents, and families. Training or experience in trauma-focused treatment approaches. Experience working with clients involved with DSS/CPS, foster care, reunification services, or court-related systems. Familiarity with CARF standards and quality improvement processes. Experience using expressive, experiential, outdoor, or activity-based therapeutic interventions. Knowledge of community resources addressing housing instability, food insecurity, and other social determinants of health. Ideal Candidate The ideal therapist will: Demonstrate strong clinical skills with complex trauma cases. Understand the impact of poverty, systemic barriers, and generational trauma on mental health. Remain calm and effective when working with high-acuity clients and families. Balance compassion with accountability and professional boundaries. Be highly organized and able to complete documentation accurately and on time. Work collaboratively with community partners and interdisciplinary teams. Embrace creativity and flexibility in engaging clients through both traditional and experiential therapeutic approaches. Documentation and Compliance Expectations Success in this role requires a strong commitment to clinical documentation and regulatory compliance.
Therapists must:
Complete documentation within established timelines. Demonstrate medical necessity in all services provided. Maintain treatment plans, progress notes, assessments, and discharge documentation in accordance with Medicaid requirements. Adhere to CARF standards, agency policies, ethical guidelines, and state regulations. Participate in audits, chart reviews, and quality assurance activities as needed.
