Director of Children and Youth Ministry Job Description Qualifications A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent education is preferred. Acceptable background check required. History of active participation and leadership in Global Methodist or other Christian children's activities. Resume with minimum of three professional references required. Children's Ministry Responsibilities 1. Coordinate the Children's Ministry with the total ministry of the church and work with church leaders to build and improve the church's ministry with children. 2. Give leadership to Children's Sunday School Classes, Children's Church, Bixby First Methodist Kids on Wednesday, and the Nursery. 3. Prepare and deliver the Children's Conversation in both Worship Services. Recruit adults to prepare and deliver the Children's Conversation when absent. 4. In coordination with the Senior Pastor and other church leaders: recruit, equip, and supervise teachers and leaders for Children's Ministries and activities including: Children's Sunday School Classes, Children's Church, Bixby First Methodist Kids on Wednesday, and the Nursery. This includes providing opportunities for teacher training, and selecting and ordering curriculum. 5. Recruit, train, and supervise Nursery Workers. 6. Make personal contact with all member families who have children in order to invite feedback and input from parents regarding Children's Ministry and to encourage attendance and spiritual growth. 7. Make personal contact with non-member children and families including interacting with children and families in Shepherd's Fold Preschool, the Afterschool Program, Cub Scout Pack 41, and Cub Scout Pack 142 to invite them to participate in the life of the church. 8. Recommend and interpret budget needs of the Children's Ministry. Be accountable for expenditures of the budget for the Children's Ministry. 9. Lead Vacation Bible School. 10. Attend and provide leadership at one Children's Camp each summer. 12. Emphasize mission and service involvement in the Children's Ministry. 13. Give leadership to Children's Ministry Team and attend Church Council Meetings and Staff Meetings. 14. Affirm and enhance the potential of each child. Serve as a role model for Christian discipleship. Be open to the needs of children. Help communicate the needs of children to the church leadership. 15. Write weekly Newsletter Article about Children and Family Ministry. 16. In coordination with the senior pastor, give leadership to the Confirmation Class. 17. Align children's ministries with the church's process of discipleship by seeking to connect children to God in worship, to others in a small group, to ministry by serving, and to the world by inviting families to come to church. 18. Perform other duties as assigned by the senior pastor. 19. Responsible for making sure all Children's Ministry staff and volunteers have completed a background check before they serve in the Children's Ministry and to follow Ministry Safe practices. Hospitality Ministry Responsibilities Lead Hospitality Ministry including recruiting, training, and equipping greeters and ushers. Job Requirements Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Passion for children. Basic knowledge of first aid. Must be able to pass a background check. Must watch Awareness Training Video and complete the quiz at the end. Accountability The Director of Children's Ministry is accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). He/She will consult and work with the Senior Pastor and SPRC in setting goals for this ministry. He/She will be expected to coordinate Sunday school and attend Sunday worship, church staff meetings, ministry team planning meetings, and weekly children's activities. Weekly office hours are required. This position will require 25 hours per week. Confidentiality The Director of Children's Ministry is privy to confidential information and shall treat such information in a responsible manner. No breach of confidentiality will be tolerated. 90-Day Probationary Period There is a 90-day probationary period followed by a review with the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
