Community-based / face-to-face client services About the Role TSG Behavioral Health & Community Services is hiring Certified Peer Support Specialists to provide community-based recovery support services to adults with mental health, substance use, housing, community, or daily living needs. This is a face-to-face, community-based role . The person hired must be willing to travel to clients in their assigned service area. Services may take place in the community, client homes, agency-approved locations, or other appropriate settings. This is not a remote-only or office-only position. Applicants must already be certified as a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS). Service Area We are hiring for clients located in: Bladen County Columbus County Robeson County Sampson County Brunswick County Surrounding counties as assigned Applicants must have reliable transportation and be willing to drive to see clients face-to-face. What You Will Do Responsibilities include: Provide peer support services face-to-face in the community Complete scheduled visits with assigned participants Help participants build coping skills, recovery supports, wellness tools, and independent living skills Assist participants with accessing appointments, resources, and community supports Use lived experience appropriately to model recovery, resilience, and personal responsibility Communicate with the Qualified Professional and program supervisor about client needs and concerns Recognize and report crisis or safety concerns according to agency procedures Complete required documentation accurately and on time Follow CPSS ethical standards, agency policies, and NC Medicaid service expectations Participate in community outreach and referral relationship-building Help educate community partners, families, and potential clients about available services Connect potential clients to the proper intake process in a professional and ethical manner Community Outreach Expectations This role includes more than seeing assigned clients. We are looking for someone who is comfortable being active in the community, building trust, and helping people understand how to access support. The goal is not aggressive sales. The goal is relationship-building, education, follow-up, and helping connect individuals, families, and community partners to services when support is needed. The person hired should be willing to represent the agency professionally with community organizations, churches, shelters, treatment providers, court-related programs, social service agencies, and other referral sources.
Requirements Applicants must have:
Active North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist certification High school diploma or GED Reliable transportation Willingness to provide face-to-face services in assigned counties Willingness to participate in community outreach and referral-building Basic understanding of mental health and substance use recovery Ability to work within CPSS scope of practice Strong communication and follow-up skills Dependability, professionalism, and good judgment Ability to complete documentation on time Willingness to complete required agency and NC Medicaid trainings Preferred Experience Preferred, but not required: 6 months to 1 year of paid peer support experience Experience working with adults with serious mental illness or substance use concerns Experience with community-based services Knowledge of NC Medicaid Peer Support Services Experience with service notes and Person-Centered Plans Experience with community outreach, relationship-building, or referral follow-up Important Note About Fit We are looking for someone who is dependable, certified, willing to travel, serious about documentation, and interested in a long-term role with the agency. This role is a good fit for someone who believes in recovery, enjoys working in the community, and wants to help the agency build trust and visibility in the areas we serve. This role is not a good fit for someone who is not certified, does not want to drive, avoids face-to-face client visits, avoids documentation, frequently changes agencies, or is not committed to community-based work. Compensation Pay is $18.00 - $20.00 per hour , based on experience, reliability, certification status, and fit for the role. Full-time or part-time opportunities may be available based on client needs, service area, and employee availability.
